Welcome to the big club table. This is what you get when you are successful. When you are a mid table side players can only ask for wages on that level. When you are back to back cup winners, those players will ask, rightly, for a premium. The likes of Westwood, Harrison, Riley, Bridge etc will have jumped up in salary if they've signed a new deal. Young players will also benefit from this, they will want more than your average Salford youth player.
You could also have a situation where players contracts are loaded. For example £50k year 1, £100k year 2. So players like Myler might be getting more this year than they were last, even without a new deal.

| Im not disappointed, i think that we have a squad thats more than capable to challenge again in 2011. I think that it's this time next year that you will see a few signings coming in mixed with the likes of rhys williams. I think by only signing up hodgson for next year, which to be honest was a position that needed strenthening with the added bonus of a kicker means that smith has total confidence in the players which did us proud this year.

24554.jpg The Wire - It's Time To Believe
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will.
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with the twists and turns,
AS everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out:
Don't give up through the pace seems slow.
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse,
that you must not quit.

| Quote: Rob Wire "On the evidence so far i wouldn't say that Matty Blythe is anywhere near SL standard, i'm not convinced with either McCarthy or Mitchell either based on what ive seen of them for us and at Leigh. Mike Cooper is more than capable as he's shown that already, he needs to kick on now when he gets his chance.
'"
Have to agree, seen nothing from these players to make me believe that if called upon they would add anything to the team.
Mike Cooper ok, but having watched the others in several league 1 games, they just didn't stand out at all, I'm sure playing at a higher level, would encourage a better standard of play and given a lengthy chance, possibly they would improve, but at the mo a big concern for me.

Secondly, I reckon the majority of clubs would make do with getting lucky just once in the Cup, but twice??...They'd be ecstatic...

| Hodgson will be a big addition. Time for both Cooper and Myler to stand up next year, I think.

| I didn't really expect multiple signings this year, we have just won back to back Challenge Cups so it's difficult to find signings which improve the squad especially as there weren't that many good players on the market this year. We have effectively improved the squad in one position bringing in Hodgson for Mathers. Hodgson is one of about four players who have been on the market this year who I would have been interested in for Warrington, the others being Brett Finch, Josh Perry and Matty Smith. I can't think of anybody else who has been signed by an SL club this off season that would have been first choice in our squad.

I'd take Ben Farrar over Brett Hodgson at fullback given his form for Manly this year, i'd also take Ian Henderson over both Clarke and Higham. Those 2 have signed for Catalan, both would make our 17. Farrar can play anywhere in the three quarters as well, i'd expect him to light up SL next season.
