| I understand why you've asked the question though. He's not such a flashy player as Eastmond or Tomkins and I think when Briers is not there, he does look a little lost. However, I think he's going to get better and better. I hope he doesn't end up like Luke Robinson though as I do see some similarities (a player I like but not absolutely top notch).

| I just watched the game from Friday again and didn't realise how involved he was in most of the tries. Even a few kicks came off well. I particularly like his quiet yet focused attitude. Doesn't throw teddy out at every decision. Will enjoy watching this kid mature. His pace is really quite something.

| For me, the big, big plus is his defence. He's very good in this area and in fact he's a bloody threat to the ball carrier as the number of times he comes away with it is unreal. He's had a disrupted season at times, he's missed a chunk, Lee has missed a chunk so they've done well for me to forge the relationship that they have, at Wigan for example they couldn't have been more on the same page.
I think at times, there's way too much attention on what folk can't do and we're in danger of overlooking what he can do, and do very well.

| he can have the game of his life at wembley and win it for us, but if he makes one mistake what doesn't even make a difference people on here would still make a topic about it and say is he worth that much money? In my opinion is that at the moment he isn't but in a few years hopefully he would have been.

| the best thing about him is that when we first signed him everyone started to criticise his defense but that has been one of his best attributes especially in one on one tackles.

There were some fantastic threads on the Salford board doing just that when we signed him. Ratchford is much better apparently. Not any more though. It's Broughton's turn this season.

| The kids done good. He was brought in with one eye on learning from and eventually taking over from Lee. Given that he is still very much "learning the game" I'll be lookign forward to seeing how he finishes off the season/performs next.

surely this is meant to say flashes of Primrose, when the little nipper flies in for another one of his tries! lol
great signing in my opinion and definitely one for the future, maybe even one to build a squad around?

| Notwithstanding the above I must admit I do want more from him eventually than a good defence and backing up. When Briers retires a lot of attacking responsibility will fall on his shoulders. We need someone who will probe, take on, and run through, the line.

| IMO, he needs to step up more and take more control of the game; Tomkins esq, he needs to step up and kick more, fifth play tackles go to Briers 95% of the time.

| I'll be honest and say I would prefer Tomkins over Myler but we never had that choice. Myler will still need an attacking halfback partner in 2011 when Briers has gone.

| He has had a great first season, his defence and support play is great and his kicking game close to the line is good enough. He has not got the long kicking game that most half backs have but he will develop that over the years. It is good that we have a different type of half back to Briers. You will rarely see Myler throwing long 20-30 meter passes along the line like Briers can but he does not really need to as Monaghan can do this.
Although Myler and Briers have not played together as much as we would have hoped they do have a good understanding together when it comes to puting kicks behind the defence such as in the Wigan game where Myler could have scored 3 or 4 times

Has he got the skill and guile to break the line with ball in hand though? That is what we need from a halfback together with a ball playing LF in my view.

Of course he has, as have Tomkins and Eastmond.
Why do we have to castigate young players.
Let them develop and encourage them.
I've today seen Sam Tomkins give a display that took my breath away (look at the HKR speccies views on their site) but he will make mistakes.
These young players are still learning the game, give them time.

| i think he's brought what we needed, another genuine scoring threat, not from set plays but broken play, backing up, that was missing from our squad last year, whether he controls the team, i know its a major part of his position but he's doing exactly what we signed him for, and can't have any complaints about that so far

I dread to think what he will be like when he hits 25+!

I agree I like Myler. But who is going to make the broken play when Briers departs?

Probably not i dont think he has the footwork that Tomkins has however he makes up on this by running great lines which lead to his try on friday. Atleast 3 times a game he will get smashed by trying to hit gaps but he keeps trying to do it and eventually will get rewarded.
Im not sure if we need a LF as Monaghan and Briers can set up a line break. Look at Leeds they are similar to us as they have Burrow and Sinfield who can create the line break and Mcguire will support the break line Myler.
