I know, I was watching it thinking it was Warrington-esque.

| is it just me or does anybody else not really see it in Sam Tomkins? I know the Wigan fans think he's better than Myler, but I just don't see it.

This is obviously aimed at the Wigan fans to get a bite, the try that Sam Tomkins scored was the game breaker and it was individual brilliance that created it unlike one of Richie Myler`s run ins. They are 2 different players, Richie Myler is a very good support player and finishes off moves with his support play, he also has a good short kicking game. His weaknesses from what ive seen are his distribution and defence.
Sam Tomkins looks like he is playing under instructions where he has been told to let the senior players like Thomas Leuluai and Tim Smith take the lead whilst he learns his trade.
He`s always capable of a great individual try just like he scored in that game, he is also a far better defender than Richie Myler and is a tough little cookie considering his build. Myler`s defence from what ive seen leaves a bit to be desired.
Sam Tomkins has to play second fiddle at Wigan behind a world cup winner as Thomas Leuluai isn`t going to be dropped and its hard for any player to get into their stride with just the odd few minutes here and there, Myler is far more advanced than Tomkins as he has had the benefit of playing a lot of competetive NL1 games for Salford and he has the luxury that he doesn`t have a world cup winner to compete with and will always start for Salford if fit.

Totally agree with that, I just don't think he's as good as people make out, he fails to shine for me, granted I don't watch him every week but I don't think he's all that, he may turn out to prove me wrong and hopefully he does.

I'd much rather have Myler of the two.
www.superleague.co.uk/statistics ... eason=2009
Mylers tackling is not much worse than Tomkins, it's not normally a halfback primary objective. Myler does far more with the ball for me. Quite a few assists given he's in a struggling side.

Tomkins stats are impressive compared to Myler`s considering his is mainly a sub and Myler is on for the full 80 minutes. They are 2 good young prospects, i`m not knocking either here as all it is is giving opinions on both.
Its just i prefer the more attack minded type of scrum half that likes to take the line on which is why i like Sam Tomkins, Richie Myler reminds me more of Shaun Edwards where he is a very good support player and finishes off the moves, Myler`s short kicking game from what ive seen is first class and slightly better than that of Sam Tomkins.

Oh I agree, I think they both have their strengths.
For me, I know what I want from my halfback, assists really in the main. If Salford have a decent second half to the season, and Myler stays fit, he'll finish with 20+ assists. In terms of a debut season in SL, you'd couldn't ask for mych more.
Thing is, there's so much improvement to come in the pair of them, frightening really. Couls easily be GB's 6 & 7 for a long, long time.

Difficult to say if he will, but O'Brien looks a good prospect.

| Wakey were awful. Far too many errors and nowhere near enough ideas. Fair play to Wigan though. You can only play what's in front of you.

I agree I screamed at the TV during the game when Dave Woods had him pencilled in for England...!!
I watched Tompkins "organise" the attack on a few occasions and he looked hopeless ...lots of arm waving (usually just saying Get back) but no one was taking any notice of him...
The Wigan Pack Was on top by a mile and Wakefield were poor it was a game where he could have stood out much more but he didnt.......
he's not for me thank you.....
