Me too. So that’s two. In a country with food banks I’m not a fan of giving one family millions of pounds of public money to live in palaces.

| Quote Jack Napier="Jack Napier"I feel as though many sporting organizations were waiting to see what others did.
With the Premier League calling off games, I expect everyone else to do so.
Whether you agree or not, the scenes over the next few days will show the regard the Queen was held in by the wider British public. If RL continues when all others don't, it'd be a terrible look for the sport.'"
I agree that it would be a "terrible look" for the sport and when I first read karetaker's OP I thought it was a fair question.
No matter what your 'persuasion', as 100% Wire says we (the game) are on a tight schedule ahead of the World Cup and whilst I wouldn't anticipate the nation to be in full mourning 'for ever', there is it seems a Royal protocol that will be observed and the timings of these State Events will dictate the mood and inform who can do what when

I did ask (politely) to refrain from this kind of posting as it's irrelevant to the topic and RL.
If you want to give everyone your opinion and great insight on the Monarchy and the State of the Nation take it to The Sin Bin

| I'm hoping the games go ahead due to the tight schedule. I'm sure the RL players & fans can show their feelings prior to the game. I had great respect for the Queen but don't think the sporting world and other activities should have to stop for any length of time. Rugby Union & Soccer have less of a problem to re-jig postponed games. Cricket has similar problems to RL.

| I suppose there really is some wriggle room if necessary . Nothing would be lost by running the World Cup & GF playoffs & final in tandem for the length of time any disruption would last. The eventual WC winner will no doubt be from the southern hemisphere anyway.
On the Royal front ,despite what anyone thinks about the Monarchy , the Queen has done an excellent job in her 70 year reign being a valuable ambassador for & bringing prestige to the UK. RIP Your Majesty.
It would good if our politicians off all sides now took a lesson from the Queen & started to work together for the good of the country instead of themselves.

Why, how do you think it looks now
And if you are only accepting pro monarchy comments on the thread then you should tag the thread title as such so that posters will be aware of it.

| Well all games are on, in fairness and already been pointed out with the World Cup so close it would of been near impossible to get it done.

Where have I said I was only accepting pro monarchy comments? I think you may have over reached here if you are trying to register that I'm trying to skew debate or fathom out whether I'm a monarchist or not, and btw whether you or anyone else is or not really isn't a problem as far as I'm concerned.. .
What I found unsatisfactory with some earlier posts, was that they seemed to be going off topic, the proposition is how will the RUGBY LEAGUE season be affected by events and as above it really isn't a pro or anti monarchy issue.
If you or AN Other want the season to carry as normal fine, I don't mind at all, it's about opinions BUT what I find hard to countenance is turning the thread into a social debate whether that's "there's always one" comment or (paraphrasing) how can the Royals be supported in a country with such inequality?
You will note that no posts have been deleted and my original prompt for 'restraint' wasn't targeted at any one or any view but thanks for your advice.

| Genuine question, but what does cancelling sporting and other leisure events achieve during this time, apart from force people to be miserable by having their one release from a mundane work life taken from them?
Now, if people were off work during this time, then I could understand it a lot more, but asking people to continue their everyday grind, while removing their small pleasures in life, just smacks of state imposed sanctions and reeks badly of social elitism.
