| I'd go further and say the drums are killing the atmosphere. Every game will have it's ebbs and flows, and the game should dictate the atmosphere not somebody with a stick. There have been many a moment where you feel the tension build, we are defending a consecutive set on our line, only to have it broken by said plank with his stick. I don't mind singing, I'm not too good at it, but I'll join in if the mood takes me, I don't need some lover with a drum telling when I should do so, the game will do that for me.

I haven't lived in the town for over a decade because I can't stand the place. I love the game so make the train journey back to watch it regularly. Hope that helps.

Sorry but that looks like a cut from the Inbetweeners Movie. Presumably the same plonkers who threw up after a sniff of the barmaid's apron then set one of em off. The little drummer boys didn't travel to Hull FC in January, there can't have been more than 150 or so and there was no paraphernalia. Yet for a small group we made a fair bit of noise.
Completely agree with TFB and 1905. The soccer superiority complex which arises from going to the odd game and dressing in clothes which Ian Brown dropped off at St Roccos in the nineties really does bore me. I love rugby league and really don't care what they do in the round ball code. I live that on away days I can walk into a pub wearing colours without hesitation. I can travel to away games on the train from Hull, I don't have to go back to Warrington to be put on a police escorted coach. I've been in town when Millwall and Leeds come to play, it's not very nice. I'm sure football fans have a lovely time, but lets keep the two seperate eh.

I think you will find that we did go to hull but drums are not allowed. It was us lot making that noise.

There we go then, QED. No need for the things! Leave em at home. I'm sure the Salvation Army are always looking for additions to their percussion section.

Wigan away, Magic Weekend, games that proved that drums do add to the atmosphere. You weren't complaining about them then. I think basing your argument on an away match is pretty pointless when this whole thread is about home games. Away Games will always be better because you go to the match as Warrington fans together, not split up into north standers, east standers, south standers. That’s one thing we want to do as well, unify the support. Home games are very dull. No singing, no colour, no passion and that’s what we want to improve. Warrington is one of the best teams in England and we should be celebrating our clubs recent success.

Ok then, lets talk home games. Craven Park is probably the most intimidating home atmosphere. No drums. When you are stood right next to one I appreciate it may sound good to you. But move away and it's just a nuisance. Warrington have been playing a brilliant style of football the past couple of years, I'm happily enjoying that. I don't need drum induced tinnitus to enjoy a game.
I appreciate you have good intentions etc I just don't think drums and yellow smoke achieve anything.

| As we're playing you tonight, here's my two penn'orth.
Since drums and instruments were banned at the KC from the get-go, the atmosphere has been up and down, dependent largely on who we're playing and the quality of rugby on show.
The derby on Good Friday started well but as FC's performance became worse, it changed to being a Rovers' singalong, which kept the noise levels high. When we played Crusaders in the cup, their 2/300 fans were singing throughout the game and kept the atmosphere going (FC's players applauded them at the end, as did the fans) and against Wigan, which despite the result was one of our best performances of the season, our fans kept the atmosphere going, because we were playing well and it was an exciting game.
You guys always seem to play exciting, flowing rugby, have a compact ground that should encourage increased noise levels and have the ability to conjure great play/tries from nothing, so you shouldn't need drums to create an atmosphere.

Compared to the DW, the KC and Galpharm (or whatever they call it now), yes.
If we ever leave the KC, it's the sort of stadium I would want for us. Maybe slightly bigger, but a similar design.

Hang on, the reason the Salford fans were making noise was because they were singing - not because they were stood behind the sticks. And, they didn't need drums.

Can't agree with that. Games like that always have a great atmosphere. The drums don't add to that.

Spot on.

Can't agree with that either. Home games CAN be dull. More to with the demographics of the fans and the raised expectations from success meaning we expect to win most game, hence doing so is not that exciting, more pleasing to watch. When the occasion calls for it I make plenty of noise and the atmosphere can be fantastic, but must admit for most games I just concentrate on watching the game.
Quote: W1R3 B4RMY 4RMY "No singing, no colour, no passion and that’s what we want to improve.'"
Fair play, I think everyone backs you wanting to improve although can't agree that there is NONE of the above things. I hear singing at every game (and sometimes join in), see loads of people wearing colours (usually including me) and there is certainly no shortage of passion. But sure, yes please help to improve it. Just without the drums, please?

Salford fans, who appear to be anti drum and jester hats, were singing because they were away from home and getting tonked, a kind of Dunkrk spirit if you like?
As has been said elsewhere, it's sometimes easier to galvanise support away from home, but, good luck to those that are at least having a go. The message seems to be join in if you want, or don't it's your choice, but, if your like minded, we (they) will be here in this particular corner having a go, that's their choice surely?
It's obviously a decent topic to 'debate', given the longevity of this thread and the number and variety of opinions expressed. However, for what its worth, the success or failure of this enterprise will not depend on what's posted on here. I don't think that the Fletcher, Salford's Shed, the Stretford End, Kop, Gwladys St or Kippax etc were/are democratic 'institutions', they just are what they are had a life of their own and you either want to be in it or not IMO.
May be thta's what all this is about finding a sense of place for those that want to be vocal? (i nearly said make some noise for your....nah)

that sums up how i remember the fletch. When i started going as a teenager without parental responsibility i went and there were grownups in there, that sang certain songs, so me and my mates sang them, they said certain things, so we learned WHY they said them and they insulted certain players, ie calling mark aston a house ALL THE TIME, it was growing up learning to be part of something.
As has been discussed onhere many times, that sort of thing, i dont know if lost is the right word, but its not been cultivated at the HJ, there's a change in attendees now with the husbands and wives and kids, its a different attitude entirely, hence why there's this perceived lethargy, its not missing, it wasn't there to begin with at the H&J

I agree, but, would add that as vocal elements are usually sections within a crowd, once this particular 'choir' find their place, they might just find their 'demographic' and voices and encourage others to find theirs.
For what its worth, I enjoyed my 'growing up time' in the 70's in both the Fletch' and Stretford Ends (yes it is possible to like more than one sport) and I would like to think that others get their time
