There's a lot of mythologising that goes on with these supposed seismic upsets. In 1998, Sheffield Eagles finished eighth in Super League (above Warrington and Hull, among others). In 1988, Wimbledon finished seventh in the league, having finished sixth the season before. Yes, both Sheffield and Wimbledon were clearly underdogs and surprise winners in those finals, but not quite the no-hopers that history makes them out to have been. So actually, I guess that makes your point valid - Wire winning against Hull KR would be a similar sort of upset to those.
