| Quote matt_wire="matt_wire"Whoever said there was a sucker born every minute was right. I'm with the guy above who says we're already the circus, this signing does nothing to diminish that and sets us up for more failure and humiliation. Just read what other clubs' fans are saying. What was wrong with keeping our powder dry and giving it a few months to see all other options? Instead we've gone for the Glamour, headline-grabbing option that'll likely blow up in our faces. Good lord I hope I'm mistaken but I just can't see it. So, do we need to be patient for another two/three years to buy into and build the Burgess way? Cus I've had enough of seeing what the Powell way did to us. We shouldn't be some sort of coaching experiment. Enough.'"
Matt, we all have opinions, and watching that documentary has changed mine, and am more than happy to give him a go.
I was never a big fan of Powell and nor were the players, you only had to see their faces when that behind-the-scenes documentary came out. I bet they look a dam site more attentive next time.
Sorry Matt, my glass is half full on this one

| Taking a left-field view:
During the second world war, there was a requirement to get certain missions accomplished quickly using revolutionary methods. What they did was to put together a unit of young, apparently ill-suited persons, all of whom had little experience but plenty of bad history on their records.
However, what these young men did have was specific skills and the right mindset for the missions they had been tasked with. Some of which were said to be unachievable based on the standard at the time. Turns out it did work, against all odds, and they became the SAS.
Since we've tried the standard route and failed many times, I'll back the mish-mash of oddities and watch with interest. They could become folk heroes if they pull it off. Nothing to lose, especially since there are no proven alternatives on the market. If Tony Smith couldn't do it for us with[i that[/i squad in '10-'13, I don't think any traditional coach on the current market could.

We're not allowed to be realists, it means our mental health is lacking apparently. People will buy into anything if someone can talk the talk. How many were ecstatic with Powell signing despite the guy only ever having one brill season in 20 years of coaching lol. Apparently we've hired a born winner, such a winner that 11 months into his current role, that team is sitting 8th in the table. Really instilled his mentality on them there hasn't he.

The alternative was a guy who choked in two semis and has just been let go from a poorly performing NRL team. And he turned us down anyway.
Since no one of any repute is likely to be available for some time, who do we go with? May as well look on the bright side. Have a watch of the two documentaries and you'll see why he may bring something different that we've been missing.

| At the end of the day it doesn't matter what we think. We don't have a say or any influence. It's quite a gamble for sure but you never know it may pay off. It may not. But one thing for sure is it will be interesting.

| Quote WireWireWire="WireWireWire"In the best case scenario he does well and pee's off to a HC role in the NRL in a couple years. So do we not want to be great for the next decade? Seems we're happy to be just good for 2. Short sighted appointment.'" 2 years was enough for Holbrook to start the 'dynasty' rolling at Stains. They've not looked back much since.
Seriously though - did you play Blakey in On the Buses?

| Anyone seen any player reactions on Social Media? The emotional response (positive and negative) from us fans is wholly predictable. I'd like to know how the senior players are feeling about the appointment.

In your first two paragraphs, if you substitute the words [i Second World War[/i for [i Vietnam [/i, I had the theme tune to The A-Team going round in my head.

That's why I put the SAS answer in there. I was thinking of the opening titles to the A-Team as I was writing that out
On a positive note, when did the A-Team ever lose?

| As fans we have 2 choices - go and watch the club, whoever is the coach, and give them our support.....
....or stay at home and fume because we haven't recruited the love child of Wayne Bennett/Sean Wane (Wayne Wane??) who doesn't exist.
I'll see you at the HJ
