| Quote PISol="PISol"There are plenty of posts on here criticising current players some with and some without justification in my opinion. The purpose of this post is not intended to be controversial but inviting genuine debate about Ben Currie. IMO he offers little to us at the moment but appears to be immune from criticism from the majority because he was potentially a player we all identified as a superstar. It isn’t Bens fault that he suffered the injuries he has done and equally he has done incredibly well to come back from them but he is a shadow of his former self . There is nobody more than me that hopes he returns to the level he was once at but sadly at the moment he is a million miles away from that .'"
Totally agree with this, 14 games in and still no threat, not so sure if this was another player they would of been given this amount time to prove themeselves. What I don't understand is why are they all so immune from getting game time elsewhere after a bad injury or being dropped and yes bit worrying if this the first time he has shone against bottom of the table team.

Not sure why people think he is immune from criticism, seems to have been getting plenty on here the last couple of weeks? Surely you know why he is being given more time than most? Before his injury there wouldn't have been a single back rower in the country I would have swapped him for, he has credit in the bank when it comes to being allowed time to get back to his previous best.
I wouldn't want him turning out on dual reg for Rochdale, he needs to be playing Super League, even on his current performances (which I agree is way down on his best) he is SL quality, he's on a level with Jack Hughes at the minute I'd say. I don't see what sending him to Rochdale would do for him, he needs gametime at the top level around the players he needs to build familiarity with. Plus I'd worry some plank would do a hatchet job on him.
He seems to be growing (slowly) week by week, put Goodwin away for a good try at the weekend.
I think he is also suffering from the amount of quality ball we are delivering out wide at present, our attacking structure needs improvement if we want to challenge for the big events. Currently we seem too reliant on a piece of Austin / Clark magic, or a kick to score tries - I'm not sure if this is a deliberate ploy by Price, but we will need to see improvement as we enter the back end of the season.

| Ben, is not back to his stella best but he does not do any worse than a good number of our pack. Someone says he offers no threat from 2nd row, but it's not as if Hughes is tearing it up in that department either. I cannot see he is causing us to lose games. Who would we replace him with in any case?

| Have to agree, there is nobody pushing for a BR spot at the moment so why would you consider moving him to another team with different systems and plays, where he would probably have to travel and where he wasn't under the constant eye of our coaches, physiology and doc ? I don't understand the logic. Please explain.

| Since we have tried half a dozen players at 13 and not really come up with an answer, I think Jack Hughes should move there. It is not as if he offering anything out wide and you cannot fault his work rate. Anthony Gelling and Keanan Brand are apparently on their way so it might be time to move Toby King in to the second row permanently. He is big enough and would offer more on attack than Hughes.

i actually would send him to rochdale, i said about 2 week ago maybe he needs a few weeks out of the first team.
Yes he's clearly fit and we've not had any wobbles like last time when we were all cringing, but even taking reduced pace into account he's not attacking anything like he used to, give him a week or 2 at rochdale, its a bit slower, he can work on getting his timing right on them offloads/passes, at the moment when he is given the ball he's hot potatoing it getting rid as fast as possible.
I think you're right also about the out wide ball or lack of, its the same issue with king and charnley and their scoring rates going down.

| It's been proven with exceptional players that being a clever footballer can offset some loss of pace... like Bridge and Briers... does Currie enter that equation?

I'd see your point if Rochdale weren't so terrible. They've scored an average of 14.7 points a game so far this season. They've conceded an average of 43.7 points.
All he'd be working on there is his defending . . .
He'd need to go to a top Championship club for that to work, but I'd prefer if he stayed at Warrington.
