| I know this topic has been discussed on many occasions, however after Friday night attendance, if I was MK I would wonder what I was fighting for. We had beaten Widnes the previous week & with it being the magic weekend this game was well covered, we play on a traditional Friday night without United or City playing but fail to muster 3000 paying spectators to watch a winnable Super league game.
Clearly Salford rugby club as disengaged with the vast majority of the Salford public & clearly it's marketing via twitter is not having a positive impact on attracting new or old customers.
I also believe the club as lost its support mechanism it used to have at the Willows & although frequently criticised the forever reds was a vehicle for supporter to get involved & even introduce new ideas. In my opinion the supporters have become very fragmented & we have servery underestimated the good work undertaken from active supporter forums.
I believe MK & his management team would do well to listen to supporters views on how we can reengage those who have disengaged & how to attract a new bred of fan.
Finally I am not MK biggest fan but I accept his money is keeping Salford rugby club afloat, I believe the current management have alienated some traditional fans but I still believe passionately we can reverse the current trend by involving, listening & changing the way the club is currently marketed & listened to.

| How many people in Salford knew there was a game, apart from those regulars who attend week in week out? Marketing from the club has always been p*ss poor but this year it has reached an all time low.
If the club are scratching their heads at the attendance figures then they need to look closer to home.

| why apologise: it hurts and is a frequent matter for comment by other fans. What you raised is important.

| it is ridiculous how the club advertise themselves. You go on the east lancs and there are posters of Rangi Chase Kevin Locke Harrison Hansen And even Hock still on the bridges. No mention of what games are coming up or anything. Does it cost a lot to advertise. We did improve our attendance against wakefield though after we played them in the league last time. (not hard really as it was only 1800 there last year)

| Compare to say Wigan, Warrington or Leigh probably our closest neighbours.
I know they are historically rugby towns with no football but you go down the lancs and on the boarders they have "welcome to.....home of....." And then you go into their centres and they have banners etc up in lampposts etc etc.
I'm not making excuses here as the current level of promotion seems to have hit an all time low unless your on social media and it appears the club have given up, but these "other" towns have a recognised town centre a focal point where every one in the town I'd say probably visits sometime that week.
Salford doesn't have the luxury of a specific town centre (which I still after 40 years cannot get my head around) it has many regional centres which increases the advertising effort / cost maybe this is seen by the club as a negative I'm not too sure, for the life of me cannot see why at the least they cannot put a bill board poster up in each area every other week advertising a home game to put it out there.

Obviously it depends on when, where and what medium you advertise. At our place we’ve just paid £2,700 for a month’s worth of digital ads on the Manchester Evening News website and Greater Manchester Business Week.
To give you an example, I’ve just looked at the availability of public advertising for the two weeks leading up to the Hull game on July 22nd. An advert shown once per minute on a digital screen in a single pub (one of those little ones near the bar) in town can be had for £20 per week. Most bus shelters in Salford can be had for £120 per week. The billboard next to Aldi in Eccles can be had for £300 per week. And a billboard on the M602 can be had for £1,350 per week.
The issue is scale. So lets say you did 3 well exposed billboards, 10 lesser seen billboards, 30 bus shelters, 10 digital screens, and ran a targeted Facebook ad campaign. You’re looking at around £20,000 for advertising during that fortnight. You could reduce the exposure to spend less, but the campaign is more likely to be missed.

| While Salford lacks a centre, what it does have lots of is smallish festivals, fun/ family days etc May - September.
I had suggested to Vickers ( which he said was happening, but didn't) was to buy a decent sized side opening trailer, get it professionally wrapped, add a decent LCD TV showing some highlights and big hits and get Mitsubishi to lend us a decent 4x4.
Get it to the festivals with some Academy players talking to people about RL, flyers for the next game, run some competitions to get contact details, have some merchandise and tickets to sell! You could prob even find some volunteers to help for a free top. ( Eg Irlam live is coming up soon, with a decent line up, but I bet the club will miss the opportunity to engage directly with thousands on their doorstep who actually pay to go to events and have some disposable income)
Apart from the festivals get it to media city, the Lowry etc and places outside Salford occassionally and on match days use it as a club shop at the stadium.
My guess is it could be done well for a one off £20-30k which a decent opportunity to get get Raging Bull, Mitsubishi and the Lowry to chip in.

You can have all the advertising you want it goes out the window, when you get there and see a load of tripe.

Your correct the UCP tripe shop opposite Pendleton Church was always top quality.

For someone who saw the seventies side yes it's mostly tripe.it certainly was tripe at Cas in the cup. Yes I am still going, although I know a lot who are not. Instead of having ago at me you want to do a little survey, and ask people why they have stopped going. They might tell you it's tripe.
