330 consecutive Salford City FC games - 30/11/08 to 10/05/14[/size:31338f0v][/color:31338f0v]: |
|
| Football is my first love - namely Salford City FC where I have a season ticket - but I do enjoy the sport of rugby league and have also been a Reds season ticket holder since mid season 2007. If there is ever a clash of games the Ammies will always come first but I do get passionate and really involved when watching the Reds.
However, I am now seriously considering whether to renew my Reds season ticket after this season and it's got absolutely nothing to do with our recent or past form either as I firmly believe that if we hadn't suffered with such a huge loss of players due to poor discipline and unfortunate injuries that we would have easily beaten the likes of Huddersfield, Hull and Castleford in recent weeks.
My increasing disillusionment with the game is entirely down to the rank bad officials that I witness week in and week out. Now I know that I see some bad officiating in some of the football matches that I watch - which I entirely put down to a lack of competence at times. However, at rugby it really does seem to me that not only are a significant majority of referees blindly incompetent but that they also appear plainly corrupt in their decision making. If I didn't know any better I would suggest that some even have their own agendas. There also appears to be an almost complete and blatant disregard for certain rules of the game which just makes a total mockery of the whole sport. Following a series of appalling rulings or oversights I generally get fired up and naturally shout my comments towards both the referee and the linesmen but by the start of the second half I just sink lower and lower into my seat with frustrating resignation as to what I'm having to witness. And as for the the man in the middle having to 'go to the video' everytime we're on Sky when it's plain as the end of your nose when it's a try - just don't get me started.
I go to a game expecting not only a professional performance from the team I support but also from ALL the people officiating the game. In my opinion the standard of refereeing has gone down dramatically in the reasonably short time since I started watching live RL and I honestly don't think that I can really put up with it for much longer.

For an answer please see the other thread where another chippy Hudds fan bleated about the same thing.

| Salford have money so that means they should be beating the likes of teams who have contested numerous play off games cup finals and semi finals now

| Has the Hudds board been shut down or something? Is there any chance a topic on a Salford board can be 'warmed-up' by, you know, Salford fans before the influx of biased Hudds fans start bleating the same turd that they've repeated ad nauseum on every other thread?
Yes we're aware of how great you are and how lowly we are. We're sorry that anyone dare suggest anything positive for Salford along with our eccentric owner and our twelve fans. Please go and do something Yorkshire related like polishing Brough's sloping forehead or pulling yourselves out of your family members. Yes it's an open forum, but you've got your own bit to do your slagging-off, please leave our little bit to us for at least a few minutes before clogging-up our talking points.

| I agree The standard of refereeing is increasingly shocking. But I think you need to take off the tinfoil. Its plain old incompetence - no agenda, no corruption, just poor officiating. The majority of the men running the line daren't speak out (tv Tony being the exception of course) and the refs just aren't up to scratch. Partly this is down the fact we have few people wanting to become refs- who can blame them. Young kids of 15 getting shouted and sworn at when they are learning to officiate at U8 games- it's hardly going to encourage them to continue- The guy who was in charge of the ref training in yorkshire stepped down a couple of years ago cause he got sick of having to deal with abuse.
Partly it's down to the way the game has evolved- especially around the ruck- too much for the ref to watch so he can't see it all.- offside is rarely checked by the ref he's expecting the linesmen to do the job there-but they rarely do. The game is getting faster - are we expecting referees to keep up with professional athletes making an 80 yard break???
Aus have gone with two refs-I suspect the RFL would like to- we just don't have enough officials.
Many of the decent refs don't want to leave good jobs to do it full time-

| there's nothing on our board and yours in more fun at the moment
nothing wrong with a healthy debate is there?
and i do happen to agree that the standards of officials has gone downhill, we have seen some shocking performances this season, not neccesarily game changing stuff but just poor calls and plain bad decision making.

"offside is rarely checked by the ref he's expecting the linesmen to do the job there-but they rarely do"
err 1. they're called "touch judges" for a very good reason: they're not "linesmen/lineswomen/assistant referees".
and 2. When did they start to police the off-side?
Their duties: www.therfl.co.uk/the-rfl/rules/o ... _officials
i.e they don't.
and we must not assume if a palyer is off-side, the ref will blow:
"If the ball is played quickly, all players will not necessarily have time to retire the prescribed distance.
They should be penalised only if they intentionally interfere with play – either actively or passively."
and
"The Referee should usually position himself ten metres behind and to one side of the point at which the ball is played as a guide to the team not in possession. If tackling is excessively keen or play is unnecessarily rough, the referee may forsake the ten metres position in order to be nearer the players involved in the tackle."
nowt new there.

| Oh HBR now you've killed the argument with facts!
Surely you're not suggesting that Ms jools and other fans should actually read and understand the rules?

I could have not put better myself, one of our group left midway through the first half last week as they could not stand the incompetence of the officials any longer. We have the same week in & week out & you can only draw your own conclusion to the standard of those appointed to fairly referee our games.
