Very interesting read and should put a few peoples minds at ease.
Staggered if the quote about what it would cost too fund an NRL club is nothing compared too what Salford is costing him.
For me shows that too make a commercially viable club out of Salford you need a winning team and income streams away from rugby that the club benefit from, IE owning the stadium and facilities surrounding and the stadium.
The link with an NRL club though for me is full of nothing but positives for the club.

| Nobody else really want this to happen? If it means the Doc spending a little bit of time away from the club in 2015, it could benefit us massively. It would stop the embarrassment of what went on in the dressing rooms following the Wakefield defeat and hopefully allow the coaching staff to address any issues in our performances.
I love Koukash, but some time away during the season would help all parties.

| I'm amazed if Koukash has spent £3 to £4 million quid on Salford....!!!
I cant begin to imagine where that has gone...
seriously has he paid off debts...? or has that gone on facilities players backroom stuff?
And for what he paid for Chase he's got back on Sneyd....?
Or has he exaggerated the numbers for the adoring Aussie press. Over here its quoted often that he has put a million quid into Salford. which seems more realistic
he's a strange one...I don't know what his game is......but I'm more inclined to agree that this venture will end up in the same way as the Oldham Athletic, the Bradford Bulls, the TV channel, and countless other grand ideas of his have ended....lots of press and no trousers...
but if it costs nothing take over an NRL club and they have bigger crowds bigger TV revenues and bigger media exposure I can see why he would be interested....so much 'me me me' for so little money.....
you can see i'm not a big fan ...I'm still waiting to see the fruits of him being "good for our game"...

I think the Flying Biscuit has it right.
There's a fair amount of noise and a bright idea each week.
The reason I didn't respond immediately was that I didn't want to go all negative so I'll make the usual and necessary caveat that he's played a blinder for us and we wouldn't be here now without him.
I just have a gut feel it won't happen,on the basis of his track record apart from us, but I could very well be wrong.

| What track record? He was interested in Oldham, but made it clear he needed to own both RL and football club for it to work as a viable business. Simon Corney was reluctant to sell and so the deal fell flat on its face. Bradford Bulls was his wifes attempt to get into ownership, whilst I appreciate Marwan would have had more than an interest in it as far as I know they made a bid but the RFL chose an alternative.
Interesting both of the above don't mention Swinton, where he said he would look at owning the club if the Council allowed him to build them a new stadium in the town centre. He has recently just submitted plans for that stadium.
Unfair to label his interest in NRL as noise IMO.

To be fair I didnt want to aim further negativity at the doctor by stating his interest in Swinton only happens if he is allowed to develop his own building.
If he can't build a stadium which would bring in other non rugby revenues he walks away from Swinton Rlfc without a care in the world and you know it.
And let's not forget the initial noise he made about wanting to own AJ Bell stadium, but now he's no longer interested in that.
"What's right for me personally" is what he said on the nrl situation .....
too true.

I think you have jumped the gun the JGR....he hasn't submitted plans at all, what he was required to do is submit his proposals for the council to scrutinise, upon which they will give him the go ahead to submit full building plans.
You are quite correct that he did say if the green light was given he would then look at a possible purchase of Swinton. maybe then he will contact the Swinton BOM to enter into formal discussions.

I hope so. Swinton (as a town) has been on its ar$e for too long now. The new Asda is a start to regenerating the town centre and hopefully the Council will give MK the nod to proceed with his plans for a new stadium and other attached amenities. Would be great to bring a RL club back into the heart of the community too, as the current trend is to move them out of the area due to the lack of available land within town centres these days. It would be exciting for Swinton, I would even stick my neck on the block and say they'll double there attendance with a stadium location around the old Ambrose Barlow site. There are plenty of chimney pots in view of the proposed site, something you struggle to spot at Barton!

| Buying Oldham football club, Oldham rugby, Swinton, Aj Bell stadium,Hotel, halls of residence for academy players, ground for Swinton, Aussie club.
All wind and baggy pants ?
I wonder if he did a Snape when he took Salford over and created credit, or its a loan to/in Salfords name.
When Mr Snape walked away we nearly went under then, I have a few doubts hope I'm wrong

| The Swinton question rather depends on whether the Doc is talking to the Old Co or the New Co. I know some of the New Co people and he hasn't talked to them but that doesn't mean he isn't in discussion with the Kidds at Old Co.
