If we had built our team around these three, and signed players in positions where they were actually needed, would we be in any worse position than our current predicament?

I would suggest not, although apparently we had to sign the current big name players to progress according to the majority on this forum?

Hopefully we can stay up, then rectify this on the off season.

Sneyd just wasn't rated by Brian Noble.

Sneyd currently bossing it every week (as predicted) for the team placed 2nd in the league. I think that answers the question of whether or not he is good enough for us.

Owen no better than Lee, Howarth, or based on today (he must be good cos he's from Wigan) Tomkins?

And although Evalds is not a winger, if anyone would rather have Platt in the 17 then there really is no hope.

Disagree JGR, Owen is SL standard IMO.

I'm not disputing whether Sneyd is good enough, just stating Noble didn't rate him. I would still take Rangi over him, but would have Sneyd over Smith.

Owen is not better than Lee. His defence is nowhere near that standard, that's the main area of his game he needs to improve on before we should consider him in the first team.

Evalds wouldn't do any worse than Platt I agree. He's still way off being a Super League player though, hence why he's gone out on loan.

Our coaching staff and youth coaches disagree. Hence why he's at Sheffield.

Lee has been so ineffective at hooker he's recently been switched to 13.

Evalds is at least on a par with someone like Jack Owens at Widnes, yet won't feature whilst we bring in championship standard players on loan.

Bit harsh on Lee there saying he's been ineffective. His defence is excellent, suspect in attack hence the signing of Tomkins. I still can't agree Gaz Owen is a better option though at this stage of his career.

I would love nothing more than our youngsters to make it, I still think Evalds will (don't think Owen will) but neither are ready yet for me. There definitely not the answer BUT neither is Michael Platt.

Owen is the best natural number 9 at the club.

The fact you are bringing in loans from other clubs send the wrong message to any young kids you may have, Alex Murphy once said of a young kid " If he's old enough he is good enough" ..... Shaun Edwards !!! Give them kids a break you lot arn't going down so play the youth.

Gutted that sneyd is still under contract with you guys. Think we are working hard to sign him but can't see us splashing big cash. It is worth noting though, whilst he has been good he hasn't been stand out good, just consistent, hard working and an overall good scrum half.

None of our coaches think so well I have absolutely no faith in Harris if the best he can do is sign platt I have never been so embarrassed for a players as when their winger left him for dead if that's the best Harris can come up with I hope he's gone very very soon

I have a horrible feeling that I cannot prove: I feel that the coaches we have had/will have are focused on people they knew from playing with/against rather than the crop of youth we have.

How does Owen, Evalds, etc become good enough: by playing at SL standard. As substitutes to start with and with an agreed development strategy. sadly this is not part of a quick fix methodology.

I cannot see how you can judge such as Owen's readiness to hold down a starting position in SL at the moment. The year long loan may be a good thing for now but I wonder what will happen in October.

That's Sneyd to a tee. He isn't an outstanding individual, but is consistent, does the basics right, has a great kicking game and obviously kicks conversions from anywhere in the pitch.
