| Could be a big problem looming for Salford.
One of the subjects that was going to be ratified at the RFL EGM on Wednesday was the change/increase in the Non Fed player quota.
With that meeting now cancelled and the "turf war" that is ensuing we are left in somewhat of a precarious position. It would seem by all accounts that we are already over the current Non Fed quota and were relying on the increase that was to be announced on Wednesday.
Assuming that a new meeting will take place after the World Cup is there going to be any guarantee that an increase in Non Fed Quota will be agreed upon or is this one of the issues that the "rebel" clubs have a problem with.

| I'm making a huge assumption here: The good Doctor is an experienced businessman and has been through some stressful times. He does not seem to be the type of person who would expose his money nor people he has made a commitment to without a confirmed go-ahead on this matter. We not talking "futures" or "derivatives" here.
It's an assumption.

| Everyone was expecting the meeting to go ahead on Wednesday but everyone was taken by suprise when the clubs had their meeting on Monday.
I dont doubt for one second that the Doc is a supremely experienced businessman but recent events seem to have come out of the blue with very little notice given even to the clubs themselves.Bearing in mind that our signings were made sometime ago its hard to see how the club could have foreseen what has since transpired.
If the Increase in Non Fed Quota isnt approved at any future meetings then it will leave us in a tricky situation.

| Wasn't Smith (as potentially Aiton might be) given dispensation to allow us to buy and assist Wakefield financially?
I doubt the clubs will reject an increase in the quota as let's face it there isn't the talent pool in the UK to match requirements. I'm very surprised we haven't heard anything from the Doc regarding the meeting on Monday and the potential banana skin to promotion and relegation.

The Doc said on Twitter that he wasnt at the meeting as he was busy with meetings of his own that day.

The question is have all our signings been registered with the RFL? Surely the club wouldn't be that naive to make official signing announcements without the RFL's agreement to register the players.

I've only seen that suggested speculatively.

| I think that an ' open revolt ' from a significant number of SL clubs to the proposed restructure of the whole sport is a bigger problem than our single club issue on Quota - Non Fed?

The Non Fed Quota is a part and parcel of the proposed restructure.

| Irrespective of Wednesday's meeting, I doubt we would have made the signings we have unless we had prior agreement and or acceptance from the RFL. I'm not concerned one little bit.
I'm suprised at Koukash's stance on this whole saga, he has said he thinks this shouldnt be discussed until after the World Cup (which I understand) but that only leaves 2 months until the season starts and nobody knows how the competition is to operate.

The only important thing's that will change for next season are (how many) teams will be relegated, and the non fed quota though, or am I wrong? Teams should be aiming off for relegation anyway, so 2 months notice isn't any difference there really. The non fed quota seems like the only thing that could do with more warning.

| I get the impression the Lenagan issue relates to the contribution of monies from Super League clubs down to those clubs in the Championship - as well as lack of sponsorship etc.
I have had to refer to the RLE which informs me that, with regard to Non-Fed et al. - ' the decision has been made because the number of Academies will be reduced to ten centres of excellence from 2015,with some clubs losing the right to host an Academy........If you can't have a full time Academy it will be difficult to get to eight club-trained players.'
I think it is a separate issue to the immediate impasse so shouldn't cause us to panic just yet.

| Just a thought but will the Doc get his wish with regard to either the salary cap or paying a "star " player outside the cap as part of this.

Interesting article from the players union. They seem to have valid opinions about youth player/academy development that would not be in line with increasing Non Fed Quotas.

Could the U turn by SBW, now to play for NZ in the World cup, be anything to do with the possibility, of him signing for Salford. Re star player outside the cap. Hope so
