When you head in towards the stadium now the works for the new road are really coming along, what I find curious is how deep the excavations have gone down. Is the new route of the A57 going to be continuous with slip roads for the stadium a bit like the design of the tunnel under the round about near Eccles for the Metrolink or is that just how deep they are having to go down because the land is so saturated around the Moss area.

No I don't think so, looking at the maps on the Peel website the train tracks don't go anywhere near the bit that has the deep excavations (you don't get any depth perspective from the diagrams). Though going to the gym this morning there seems to be a load of new heavy plant for pilling being delivered to the other side so I'd guess it is to be an underpass with access/slip roads for the stadium, though to me all that will do is move the traffic congestion from the motorway roundabout to the new road.

reading the pdf docs on peel's website, the new lift bridge which will be accessible from trafford circle (near to Chill Factor) will have the facility for the metrolink. The train line for port salford will be built OVER the A57 that will then connect to the existing line that runs behind peel green.

Looking at phase 2 there will be new slip roads eventually at both J10 and J11 so it's possible that this is why the excavations are so deep in preperation?

The new road is to pass underneath the new train line, hence the deep excavations.
