I watched the Warrington v Wigan game last night and fumed at the 2 tier game we appear to have when it comes to officials, rules and administration.
I lost count of the number of times I saw players from both teams getting up from the tackled player with their hands all over the ball and not a single penalty given for it. Is it just me or do we get pinged in every single game for exactly that offence?

In addition, something that has bothered for quite some time is the video ref! On friday there were a number of occasions when the video ref would have been used to check things had we had it (the Turner try in the corner having dived over the corner flag, the Lomax try when the ball pinballed around 3 times before landing back in his arms etc). Now I'm not saying that they weren't tries but that it would be nice to go upstairs to check like we did umpteen times last night.

I know threads about a lack of consistency are plentyiful but my point is that as soon as you get 2 top teams playing the rules seem to be forgotten because it will slow the game down and look bad on TV if there are tons of penalties. The script was written before the game last night by the brains on sticks at sky. This was gonna be a blockbuster and let's not let a little thing like rules get in the way. I don't doubt for a second that had the ref applied the rules properly and fairly that the players would have got the message quickly and we would still have had a great game...perhaps an even better one minus all the petty cheating that to me is an increasing feature of the game in this hemisphere.

The attacking player can touch the corner flag now under the new rules. As long as his feet haven't touched the whitewash it's OK.

Furthermore it isn't possible to go upstairs for a video ref decision if the match isn't televised.

I know and was questioning the position of his feet!

And exactly my point about having a 2 tier league those games that are televised and those that aren't. I think you missed the point, all superleague matches sould have video ref regardless of tv being there. NRL does

I think with it being a big TV game that's been hyped up, they tend to let things go a bit more to keep the game flowing.

You see the same sort of thing in Origin where recently Paul Gallen managed to stay on the field when he landed a clean punch to someone's face in full view of the officials.

All good points, but let's just hope we can soon be in tier 1
