Has anyone any thoughts on attracting news fans?

It would be difficult to bring a non-salford fan to a game when they have to pay £20 a ticket.

Sale who seem to have set themselves up in direct competition to us are charging £5 - £15 depending on what the offer is.

Thats putting the car parking/traffic situation to one side.

Lots of non-union fans will go to Sale from work at the moment just because of the ticket pricing.

It would be nice if Salford had some kind of bring a friend scheme with discounted ticketing.

Because ticket offers and discounts have worked so well in the past, haven't they?

All it ever leads to is people taking advantage of them and the club losing out. Get it right on the pitch and people will come.

Just read on Facebook, special offer for London match--- tickets 2 for 1. Now I want to know if it is definate that the shuttle buses are running from the old Willows site on Friday, if so at what times. I read that it would be £2 one way & £3 return is it still possible to use a GMPTE bus pass on them as last season.

for me this season we should now look at the games where we expect a low turnout such as this week against london, catalans, etc... and drop the prices significantly. If you market games at £10 people WILL come because it is a reasonable loss or disposable expenditure to watch a team that may or may not produce on the field. It was proved at the Willows on the last game that people will spend that as i took a number of additional friends and family that normally dont attend because it was a good price and i am sure many others can say the same.

I know people will say this hasn't work in the past but just using the 1900 there the other night, we could have easily hit 4K has the tickets been £10 in my eyes and then we would have broke exactly the same.

You may wish to ask the club that question.

There's plenty of 'Old' fans to return yet. (Including me!) Haven't been to a game since we left the Willows. I was left severely disillusioned and was convinced that I would never return. Some of the decisions and actions over the last two years have been bitter pills to swallow. I sincerely hope that the Good Doctor comes through with his plans and it's fantastic to see Salford's name back in the headlines for all the right reasons.

I have tremendous respect for all the fans who have continued to give their support at Barton. However, the 'Die Hards' are clearly not enough to maintain any long term progress. 'Absent friends' like myself will probably drift back before too long. However, new fans will be a lot harder to win. We can't do anything about traffic jams, parking etc., fixture changes............but we can definately become more competitive with our pricing structure.

Good Luck to the Reds and all who sail in her!

You were disillusioned by moving to a shiny new stadium with STANDING and SEATING options, that will allow Salford to move to the next level with the right direction? Damn, must have been TOUGH for you to take.

Oddly enough, yes. Besides the superficiality of the new stadium, it falls short in so many ways.

1. It is owned by Peel and the council and we're only tenants. This has serious implications for our development.
2. It is a poor stadium and not representative of rapidly developing city that outshines its rival towns on so many levels.
3. It isn't what we were promised.
4. It is run like a bland, cultureless mob of corporates who wouldn't know an atmospheric matchday experience if it bit them on the bum. If we wanted bland, corporate 'entertainment' we'd go to the Odeon.
5. The views from three stands are terrible and far inferior to the views at the Willows.
6. It's generic, lacking all identity. Change the colour of the seats and you've got the Stoop/HJ stadium/Halton/LSV stadium.
7. The fans are treated as customers and not interconnected supporters, part of the whole and the very essence of the club's being.
8. By outcasting supporters it's like playing away ever week but without the associated away day fun.

Just a few reasons why a shiny new stadium with standing and seating options isn't necessarily a good thing.

If Carlesberg made rugby league stadiums . . . . There would be thick pile carpeted terracing, free beer and pies, heated seats that massage you during the game and topless cheerleaders. icon_biggrin.gif

I agree it falls short in so many ways and I'd be glad to limit my visits to those of last year, an away fixture, a semi and a corporate V Leeds. I do take exception to you comparing it to the HJ which although has been unfavourably called the 'flat pack' is a much superior stadium with 4 decent stands rather than the 1 plus 3 that you have

I also think you are being unfair on Peel and the Council, you could have always stayed in Weaste and redeveloped, or funded your own move to the 'Wembley of the North in any part of your great 'rapidly developing city' that your fan base deserves.

As for attracting new fans good luck, but, it can't all be about the stadium or the colour of its seats

I agree the three small sides spoil it for me and it does affect the atmosphere within the stadium. I went to Leigh last year for our moved fixture with Wakey and i prefered the feel of it. I would argue though that our bigger main stand and especially the corporate facilities are far better than the HJ. I know many will say the 2nd and 3rd building phase of the stadium will never happen, despite the foundations already being in place, but if they did this in the future it would then become much a better facility. Personally I think if they would have added another 6 rows of terracing to the other 3 sides it would have looked and felt totally different.

Fair enough.

Your main stand is pretty good, better than ours, decent facilities and eye catching from Barton Bridge and Barton Stretch. The other three are a waste of space and IMO may be its a case of setting the bar too high on one thing to the detriment of others?

The eye catcher will soon lose its shiney new appeal, spreading the money around the ground might have been a better bet?

You're telling this to the wrong people. We're all well aware of the total f**k up Peel and Salford Council made of the design.

Accept my sincere apologies then, but, for the record I only responded to a comment, corresponded if you like? I didn't just make up a random comment to derail the 'attracting new fans' thread
