| I support Wigan but as a rugby fan i wanted to share my views and see what you lot at the City Reds think. I have a sort of soft spot for Salford always enjoyed going to the Willows and and work with a few lads who support Salford and had a fantastic time a couple of years ago at the magic weekend in Scotland singing sloop John B all the second half against Warrington even though you lost that was a special moment for me.
If you dont mind me saying but Salford have always been a stuggling team (although you stopped our challenge cup run). But i really think Salford have some good times ahead. Your coaching staff seem to be the best you have had since Andy Gregory, Phil Vievers has been a long time in Coaching in this country and seems to know his stuff Especally in defence (even though you let in a couple of trys against Cas and lets face it got ripped off against saints) your defence looks strong and last year pre Matt Parish, Vievers really seemed to turn your side around untill parish changed it again. In Sean Long grrrrrrrr attack, each time you get the ball you look threatening in both games i've seen this year Salford have faded at the end Which is dissappionting because you start so strong is fitness an issue? you have a new conditioner this year he may be able to change that.
Whenever i go on this site people are slagging off Salford left and right i have no place to say if this is right or wrong of you to do. but i think that it wont be long before the slagging becomes praise.
Good luck for the season ahead (except whenever you play Wigan)

| Thanks for your observations siaggie..as you may see, reasoned constructive debate has been hard to find on our boards recently. We are a struggling side and some coaching stability after last season will help but only if those coaches are the right ones. Our new stadium offers an opportunity for growth but i have always been of the belief that a winning team is far and away the most important thing to attract sponsorship (Bradford in the early days of SL...awful ground but winning team = big crowds)..fans and better players. Alas at Salford we have been the team that takes one step forward and one and a half back. Glimpses of a better future have often been mirages tantalising us on the horizon. But the hard core of 3000 or so will continue to turn up. its too early to judge this years team. Widnes on Friday is already a must win for us. And oddly will be the third surface type we have played on..Snow v Cas...Grass v Saints and on Friday astroturf or whatever they call it. we looked very good against Saints but poor against Cas so its hard to tell as yet just where we are at. good luck to you all at Wigan and please dont lose any sleep over what may happen when Salford meet Wigan....except having to look at our awful green kit!!

| Good post nice to a little bit of balanced discussion, I believe we are heading in the right direction although I am under no illusions. We will continue to blow hot & cold & struggle once injuries start to bite.
I expect us at best to finish fourth from the bottom but can see a little bit of progress in the organisation on & off the field. I am happy with PV who seems to be making some progress & I can point to good signs that Sean Long is giving our attacking options a little more bite, however I am not getting carried away & before DI calls me deluded I for one am happy to see the small progress we have made.
