Seriously? Did you blackout for the first 60 minutes ? Perhaps towards the last 15 minutes. Prior to that My dad and I commented on how lifeless it had been for long periods. It almost felt like watching an U21's game at one point. At Wigan, Saints an Warrington the fans scream at the ref and linesman and tonight our lack of vocal support and vocal pressure showed on Silverwood... he couldnt have been more relaxed...do you think he would have ignored all those oppurtunitys to blow up at Wigan, Saints, or Warrington. Fat chance, he would have been twitching nervously. You can say it's big club syndrome however I blame it solely on there fans vocal harassment of the Ref. That and how the players are tought to play the ref. Tompkins only has to flail his legs around at the JJB and there 40 yds up the field. In that area we aren't playing clever rugby. I don't for one minute agree with cheating or bullying however the clubs at the top end of the table are more "switched on" when it comes to clever rugby. Thats probably down to coaching but players as individuals aren't stupid. They know when to play the percentages and get away with easy meters for dubious penalties.
We seriously lack a ruthlessness as a team (and fans) to make a serious challenge if we do make the play offs.
I was glad of the win don't get me wrong but there was a complete lack of urgency tonight, something which will blow us out the water against better teams.
Let's not forget that was a team that got NILLED last week by HULL KR....
The sooner Parish arrives the better. Hopefully he can magnify this run of consistency and form to catapult us into a good playoff run.
But there is allot of room for improvement.
Points for Parish
Holdsworth kicking?
Stef's poor decision making when in good a position?!
Fekas lack of movement from deep in our half ( We know the reasons behind this but it needs addressing if we are to maximise his potential)
Anderson's fitness (slowing down our 20m restart for being last man back)
We could go on after tonights performance, but what concerns me the most is how we continued to be dominated in the tackle against a team which has conceded a draw dropping 674 points. I appreciate they were up for the task after last weeks defeat at the hands of Hull KR , however the difference between us and them and how we failed to dominate collision and the tackle on a whole was a joke.
They had at least 3 men in the tackle when inside our own half and controlled the ruck much better than we did. On the rare occasions we had 3 men present the ball was still coming loose, and if that happens again against a team that promotes the offloading then we'll be ripped to shreds. Exactly that happened happened against Warrington in our 60-0 defeat and I couldn't go through that again especially in the play offs. This also concerns me when our Head Coach was originally drafted in to tighten up defence?
Like I said don't get my wrong i'm over the moon with the win and the players effort and team effort and I certainly wasn't one of the fans hurling ridiculous abuse at Patten when his brain fart occurred however there is much room for improvement if we are to continue along this path.
On a positive note i'm really impressed with how our forwards and props in particular are progressing.
Jewitt is a different player,
Sidlow has grown a pair
Boyle is...errr immense
Neale is tireless
Adamson is taking on the line more
and Ray and Feka have been reliable and persistent.
Well done lads.
Good effort lads and good luck against Hull next week...

It is merely the end of the beginning

| Good post Lyrad Red.
Not agreeing with it all but your virtually spot on, lucky win and a good win, 2pts is 2pts - Salford for the play-offs? No not for me, not got a chance with performances like that.
Lyrad Red - The shed was sh[ii[/ite!? Infact at one stage someone shouted out S.A.L. - to the wrong tune, obviously never watched the Banna Splits, never been to a game before or was just tone death!?
The Shed was BOOMING over 20 years ago when we were just as s[ih[/iit but I'm sorry if your not old enough to remember. Not having a go but when 'The Shed' was on form you'd have thought you were in heaven given tonights shambolic attempts!

Yes too young to remember to go that far back but as you rightly mention our support has dwindled since relegation in 2007. I remember that game against Huddersfield at home after Karl was sacked when Wilshire escaped to offload as he was going down to Hodgson who run 60 M to score. Immense atmosphere 6000+ and I still watch on Sky + from time to time. Since then and the diabolical coach we've had in charge (who I think tool our club back 10 years) The Shed has become a "Sing when your winning" rather than a "Sing to support" collection of fans.
Referring to my previous post If any of you have watched the the Wigan Leeds game before you'll see exactly what I'm on about. Mossop putting in a BAFTA nomination for simply DIVING to the floor in a Tackle and then Tompkins performing a professional foul by tackling Sinfield from an offside position denying Sinfield. Ok Mossop was penalised for diving and a penalty given against Tompkins. However they do this allot of the time and aren't penalised "allot of the time." It's this "anything to win" attitude and ruthlessness that we lack.
I remain hopeful of a play off finish and think back to our last playoff outing. A loss to Bradford. My highlight being Luke Adamson making a one on one block buster tackle against Vinakolo stopping the big (at pace ) dead in his tracks on the wing. I can only hope We find ourselves in a similar vain of form.

Yep, totally agree. Also to add, its also become a place of wannabe's and one's who wanted to be wannabe's. Shame really.

| HA HA i come on here pretty hammered last night and wrote this!
Yeah i clearly mean the last 15-20 minutes,i thought it was great,we needed to win like that to generate ANY sort of atmosphere! For the 60 mins before that you could hear everyone chatting away, even as holdsworth was taking his kicks, not paying much attention it seemed!
Poor crowds and poor atmosphere for most of the season, suprising really being the last year at the willows, fighting for playoff spot???

| I think its time we all come to the conclusion that the Shed will never be the same as it was in the 80s & 90s. doesnt matter how you try, it is finished ( which is a shame), its been going on a few years now where you have people not singing that song cos there singing and they arnt singing cos they are singing etc, etc. i feel its time to start of ways of thinking of getting the new ground bouncing, like the shed once was!

Complacency from both fans and players last night. Also I think you are forgetting it was only about 5 weeks ago we were also nilled at home vs Hull KR in the cup.

| From what i can see/here it seems the 30 odd young ones at the back of the shed try and start a lot of songs, and nobody bothers joining in!! I know there are a few turnips in amongst them, but they are coming along and supporting the club, they might be a bit football orientated but at least there coming through the gates and having a go at getting behind the team!

Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book :Others/NA.JPG |

| I don't think any British grounds, RL or otherwise, have the same atmosphere as they did in the 80's and 90's.
Would be happy to be proven wrong if anyone can offer a counter-example but I certainly haven't come across one.

I can't understand why people compare the shed now to the shed in the 80s n 90s its nearly 30 years ago people are different, society is different
playing by a different set of rules which is seen as acceptable
I wasn't inthe shed in the 80s and I was inthe northstand in the 90s but I bet the mix of people was totally different, mostly blokes drinking cheap beer, lots of testosterone standing were you wanted smoking where u wanted I've heard mass pitch invasions, throwing buckets of water / snowballs at opponent/referees all seemed perfectly acceptable
now somebody throwing a plastic bottle which in this day n age is wrong , there is a man hunt n linching organised, bit of overexuberence and the stewards are all over you like a rash
If you need to compare compare now to 2000s better? Worse? 2002 was epic, 2006 was good and imo the last 12 months its began to creep back to them levels which is a good thing.
Friday 2nd half thought the atmosphere was great lots of pro salford songs not as many anti referee / anti opponents songs should not be seen as a negative imo
