| I would like to think we will give you a good lesson in rugby league & send you packing with a miserable journey back home, but somehow I cannot see us doing so! Hope to see many of you guys over on Friday, you normally take over the Weaste pub two minutes from the ground.

you guys need to cheer up surely things arent that bad 5 games in! one win and you could get a few in a row.. hopefully not starting on friday
It's astonishing isn't it. Worrying too. You see, once you get a core of critical commentators on the Turkey, it sets a downward spiral of general negativity in motion. Views on the coaching personnel, methods, playing staff, physical size, MOTIVATION and anything else people think they know a bit about when in truth, they haven't got a clue.
Most opinions are based on very limited information and once a perceived interpretation of the characteristics of this team/club have been established, their opinions are reinforced by what they see on the pitch.
The lack of emotion showed by the coach is a case in point. It was suggested that the coach doesn't care and doesn't get the best out of the players because he doesn't swing from the roof of the Main Stand at every opportunity. Thus, this is why the players appear to lack passion when on the pitch. (This is called 'false attribution error' if you're interested) Suddenly this is DEFINITELY why the team or any team doesn't win... But wait a minute, that simply isn't the truth is it. Tony Smith, Michael Maguire, Stephen Kearney and Wayne Bennett are all coaches I've witnessed observe the game in a calm and considered manner. So, do they lack passion? Well, who knows but they certainly don't lack winning records do they?
You see, it only takes a couple of people to suggest why anything happens at the club and suddenly, truth is created. (Peeps, it's called social constructionism)
Anyway, on behalf of the many former Turkey regulars who rarely post on here anymore due to the utter conjecture, may I say, come on peeps, let's just cool it a bit. I know you all care immensely about the club and are massively frustrated at it's perceived current plight but my word, it's depressing everybody!
Hey, even I, despite hardly missing a game in (Yes, I know I missed half a season when I was in Aus) over 20 years am seriously considering knocking it on the head. And it's not the club I'm pi$$ed off with. It's the growing majority of negativity from the fans. Negativity founded on very little knowledge. (+ the louts who were an absolute embarrassment at Leeds last week.)
Well, no doubt I've stepped on a few toes here so apologies if I've caused offence.

Mate, I've kept most of it back. (That's my bread and butter remember) Anyway, speaking of buffoons becoming educated, how long did you study???
I know I've had a rant there matey but I just don't enjoy going to Salford anymore. It's genuinely turd! It's horrible feeling like that. You see, getting beat every week isn't a big deal for me. It's the lack of comradery and fun on the terraces. It's become a crucible of misery rather than one of irony, wit and celebration... We've lost the plot!

I'm not offended. I entirely agree. I've said it before, but this board is getting more and more like the Jeremy Kyle show. It reached it's zenith with Sluggate, when (supposedly) fully grown adults saw fit to spray puerile insults around. Very embarrassing for all involved, in my opinion.
In addition to socal constructionism, etc., motivated reasoning is something else people could check out on t'interweb.

| I don't know I think there is still some good bouts of humour despite the surrounding misery. Ave it's continuing battle against drinking, watching the game and shouting abuse. Bobby's seriously misplace optimism.
We should bring back the confetti and bog rolls. I used to love aiming them at evil solly's head when we threw them lol.
I think one problem is that the shed is divided into to many fractions. Theres the young and restless who stand behind me. The nobbers below you lot. Then the turkey lot and then the other turkey lot outside the shed. I notice it more now since standing away from the turkey lot. I know that the nobbers and the young and restless tend to be the more abusive/ singsongs aimed at the opposition. However on many occasions if they start a Salford chant the turkey lot will start a different chant instead of joining in. It almost smacks of an elitism within the shed. There's no cohesiveness. Perhaps alot of this has to do with the oncoming of age and how you interpret things that you never really looked at that deeply before. Maybe the shed has always been the same, it just changes in your opinion, when really it's you changing.

Just wondering - who are "the Turkey lot"? There's about 4 of us who used to write a fanzine - surley we can't have much effect on the atmosphere. Or do you mean people who post on the Turkey (like you)? Or is an arbitary, made up, classification?

| Spot on post RP.
It is indeed a sad indictment on Society these days, that everyone demands things immediately, feels the need to blame, and are suddenly experts on everything because they have the internet. We support Salford because we foolishly tied our colours to the red mast and it should be our duty to ride out the storms that she goes through. It's all about the journey, and hopefully we will eventually see the shore before we feel the need to pass the red torch on to the next generation.
Let's not forget that it is just sport and entertainment for us. An often cruel and depressing entertainment at times, but the highs feel so much higher for that. We should enjoy the gamble we place every time we pay to watch the Reds. Passion can work positively or negatively and it's up to us to change that.
*Rousing orchestral score fades*
I thank you.

Good john wilky last looked out
on the pitch at salford.
when the snow lay round about
deep and crisp and even
brightly played the lads that night
though the frost was cruelllll
when poor swinton scored a try

Abuse? Its hardly abuse is it....more like constructive criticism. I can't bare watching them sober if I did I'd more depressed than I already am, a few pre game whiskies and many pints of the black stuff is the only thing that keeps going on a Friday night/Sunday afternoon!!!

Yeah I just mean the group who I know through here who all stand together where I used to stand ( and still do -quite enjoyably- on occassions).
