In my view the coming days and weeks are amongst the most crucial in the club's history. Big decisions have to be made and they have to be the right ones.
The club did everything right in the close season. Big name signings, some good promotion and subsequent increased season ticket sales created a buzz. There was much talk of reaching out to lapsed fans, the play-offs were the aim.
However, two games into the season and all that work is undone. Season ticket holders are disillusioned, lapsed fans who may have been tempted have been lost again.
The big decisions have to be made. John Wilkinson has to look in the mirror and ask himself two questions. Do I go down in history as the man who not only kept the club going but left a legacy of a thriving club in a new stadium or do I go down the opposite route of being the man who kept the club going but took them from their historic home to a white elephant of a stadium in which the team plays lower grade rugby in a deserted arena.
In his heart of hearts he loves the club so much he must pursue the former. That is why he must be ruthless this week and sack all of the senior coaching staff, McRae, Simms, Vievers and Alker. They are all culpable in overseeing a pre-season that has delivered an unfit, disorganised shambles of a side.
It may cost money but the club will lose money hand over fist if they do act.
The next decision is the biggest one to take. Who to bring in. I would go for Brian Noble working with Alan Hunte. Noble, I know has his detractors but is available and has a proven track record of producing successful and competitive teams at this level.
He will bring the structures, disicipline and organisation we currently lack. A post elsewhere on here speaks of other Super League managers being ex players, young coaches with new ideas. Hunte fits into this. The Academy teams play some sparkling rugby. Noble could bring his experience to bear as Hunte finds his feet in much the way he nurtured Iestyn Harris at Crusaders.
A fresh start is needed to rejuvenate the club and make this season the one we all really wanted for the last season at the Willows. Over to you JW.

I'm sure Noble isn't available. He's been contracted in on Mik Roruke new fil as rugby director.

He said pretty clearly on GMR on Thursday that he was available and keen to be back in the game.

Lets be honest, can we really afford Noble? we would still have to pay off McRae unless he walks, which i very much doubt

Mr Wilkinson needs to sack Mr McRae, simple as that. It would be quite pointless and too disruptive to sack all the coaching staff. Unfortunately they have to follow the lead of Mr McRae, who doesn't seem have to have a clue. I watched him last night commenating on Sky Sports, making reference to the heavy defeat we suffered at the hands of Saints, and he looked like a troubled man, you see the problem is that Sean Mc Rae doesn't know that he's a crap coach.

He tends to harp on about being in the game at the top level for 16 years, but at saints he had Mike Gregory doing the coaching, at Hull he had John Kear behind him, yet as soon as he had to prove himself in his own country with the South Sydney Rabbitos they came bottom 2 years on the run, 'THE WOODEN SPOON KING'. Does this in itself not tell anyone about his capabilities. With this in mind, who in their right mind would offer such a person a four and a half year contract.

Sean appears to be a really nice man, but again I say he doesn't realise that he can't coach, the man has never played rugby league at a decent level. He's sounds like he knows what he's talking about when hes on TV, but he cannot motivate his players.

I went to Cardiff and spent my hard earned cash, and at half time Salford were still in the arm wrestle........ the difference between the two teams was the half time talk from the two coaches.......................... Harris got his boys motivated and gave them a game plan............ McRae probably bored the pants off the lads and almost put them to sleep.

We need someone like Brian Noble who can turn this season round for us. We need to do this quickly because I for one am sick of getting a good thrashing off all and sundry. This can't be any fun for the players and I know most of them put their heart and soul into what they do, but without a good leader at the healm and proper direction then there's only so much they can do.

Come on JW do it before it's too late........................... SACK 'IM
