| I thought I might get a bit of Colin Dixon.
The point being - there are surely great lessons to be learned from that period for Salford. Any connections preserved from that period? Any attempt to link with the salad days?
Worth a try I would have thought as an interested outsider.

| they were great times,watching a fantastic team,however the club was mortgaged up to the hilt to pay for it.There is no doubt that the following years in the doldrums,were a direct result of this. Thank goodness for Mr Wilkinson and Mr Clague. But for them there is no doubt that we would have gone the same way as swinton,halifax widnes oldham etc etc.

| I appreciate your point regarding overspending but the style of play and the need to scout wide and to think outside the box when recruiting and playing should be clear to anyone observing the Salford example set by Snape & Co.

| Also remember that going to a match ... not watching it on telly with a lot of mates ... was a popular social event. All sports were starting the decline that has lead to today's poor attendances (outside the two top divisions in football) and Snape (s) realised the only way forward was entertainment and celebrities. A bit like the 20/20 revolution in cricket.
As has been posted, it, like all such, did not last.

| Brian Snape was on the board for four years, before becoming chairman.
his family had been in the entertainment and leisure industry and from that background he realised you had to provide a good product i.e. a great team.
he did not say you come through the turnstiles, then I Will get the players.
he must have had a good press officer then, we got publicity when we had
the grass cut.this is not a criticism of anyone Its just the way it was.
let the good times roll

| Snape was also forward thinking in getting the club to subsidise the wages of the players, the casino idea was copied in Aus to pay for their teams and was oh so very nearly given back to us, until politics and the church got in the way and the Giant casino stopped us in our tracks.
