I have just heard a suggestion on a new name for coach.

I would just like to hear opnions on this person because to me it would seem like a good idea.

The name is Dean Richards.

He has a win at any cost mentality and im positive he is only suspended from the union side of the game and perhaps Salford would benifit from that mentality.

We have been the gentlemen of rugby a long time taking defete on the chin no matter what but with the new franchises being renued i dont think being bottom would be in our advantage.

Anyway i was just hoping on your thorts on dean richards either head coach or assistant.

I suspect he knows very little about RL, so no thanks.

would be excellent as a advisor or director of rugby imo as said great mentality to winning
winning is winning in any sport and if memory serves dosent mind complaining about referees when useless (thaler)

or getting his players to act injured

I can see the argument that he knows nothing about the league side of the game.

But did Shaun Edwards or Mike Ford know much about union before they converted to that code. Did Clive Woodward know anything about football When he went to Southampton after winning the world cup.

There have been so many sucessful converts from league to union or vise versa on the playing side of the game so i cant see why it cant be done for coaching. Salford have that many number 2s in the backroom that the transission shouldnt be a hard one.

Dean Richards knows how to motivate players and thats what salford need not a pat on the back saying hard luck when we get 50+ points past us like McRae.

If Richards could make a player fake injury he must have that win at all costs mentality and the trust and admoration of the players for them to actualy risk doing it.

Wouldnt people rather have a man that will go all out for a team and say what he thinks than a coach that sits back and doesnt seem interested in anything except his next sky television apearence.

I can some logic in a union coach getting part time involvement in RL but not full time. Think Richards has been disgraced to a level that will render him useless to anyone wishing to create credibility. But we can hardly throw too many stones about cheating when you see what Warring sorry Melbourne have just been caught doing down under.
I personally think that Dai Young would make a top notch RL coach as he has a wealth of experience in RL and is proving to be a a quality RU coach and for me is the next Welsh national coach.
Back to getting in a RU coach in some part time capacity think it is obvious the attacking side of the game would be beyond them but anything that needs a rigid structure is right up an RU coaches street, think defensively they could teach maybe a thing or two and I have said on many occasions that kicking both in the field of play and for position in RU makes ours look shocking, OK this might well be because during your average RU game there is a greater amount of kicking but I defy anyone to contest that your average RU kicker naturally kicks the ball a far greater distance than the average RL player.

I could see possibly Denis Betts ( Wigan - Auckland - Gloucester RU ) being linked , Shaun Edwards I'd love to see back in RL in a coaching role , can't see what a RU player- coach with little or no experience of RL will add to us either by tactics or prestige unless we're being being turfed out of SL and the big plan is to turn back to the 15 man code after 120 years .. heave !

different roles (I expect more than 2nd rows to be the major tacklers)(outside/inside centres?)(scrum halves and stand-offs have different duties)
different season and expectations
