| After what most will agree has been one of the best weeks to be a Salford fan in a couple or 3 decades will people see this as good work well done by Simms?, think many have to except that Simms will be the main architect behind the big names coming on board.
I've never been one of his detractors as such and think he does make the head coaches job a great deal easier. That said I still don't see SM as being the answer, though to be fair to him next season when he has a markedly improved squad to try and extract better and more exciting rugby, if we start next season and still insist on playing none expansive boring RL then without doubt it will be time for him to go and a bigger name to come in and lead the club forward.

| I've said this a few times, and it strikes me that for all his detractors he must be doing something right if players either re-sign or sign on the dotted line to play for him.

| It'll be interesting to see if attitudes change when some of the more older established players have left next season.

| I have a great deal of respect for SM - his integrity, honesty and knowledge of the game present a shining example to all up and coming young coaches. Although success has eluded him in latter years much of that has, I feel, been due to the quality of the squad that he has had at his disposal. I agree that next season he should be able to do much better and I admire your club for supporting him. If he cannot improve to your satisfaction then maybe it will be time for a change. But that would be a sad day for the game and for a true gentleman of rugby league.

I'm just about to make myself rather unpopular with many regular contributor's on this forum but I applaud you 'Old Warrior' on an accurate summary of Shaun McRae.

32990_1435324474.jpg First accept sadness. Realise that without losing 70% of the time, winning wouldn't be such a relief.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_32990.jpg |

| I've nothing against McRae I'm sure he's done his best with what he's had to work with. I can actually see him doing a lot better next year with a stronger squad. It will be interesting next season to see if he encourages a more attacking style of play now that he'll have some extra talent.
Personally regardless of how well the team perform next year I'd be surprised if he was offered a new deal because 4 years plus coaching one club never seems to happen much in rugby these days. Saying this It would be too soon for Malc in my opinion as I think a minimum of 3 years is good grounding for a head coaches job at this level if he's up to it. I wouldn't be in the least surprised if a new head coach was in place for our first game at the new stadium in 2012.

Yes indeed. No surprise at all. 4 to 5 years seems to be the limit. However, this tends to be 4 to 5 years with the same group of players. The squad that McRae inherited has evolved on an annual basis. In effect, he'll be coaching a completely different team bar the odd player that has managed to last the distance. Although, come to think of it, many of these players are different players too, in that they were academy players back in '08 whereas in '11, they'll be fully seasoned pro's.
I suppose we'll have to wait and see!

| As for S McRae, well, as much as I shouted him in and truly thought that he was a big name coach who would inspire our squad, he's blatantly failed to do so.
That being said, to question his tenure, particularly after this weeks signings, and before he's had a chance to mould this squad, is a little premature.

| I think SS has certainly pulled a rabbit out of the hat with the current batch of signings, his previous efforts have been a bit hit and miss when you look back through the years but certainly ive been impressed the fact our "business" has been done during the season and not in November and december and even january sometimes.
I think SM has had his hand tied with the players he's had to play with over the last few years with players who perhaps dont have enough quality to move the team to the next level.
New blood coming in with the experience and skill @ playing and playing well @ superleague should hopefully see a better brand of rugby and more success in the future

| With the exception of the odd hiccup I personally believe Simmsy has come up with some excellent signings for us. Stapleton, Wilshire, Big Phil, Cashmere, Henry, Holdsworth, Rutgo, Dunneman, Robinson, Broughton, Gibson and certainly not forgetting Dodgy Hodgy are all prime examples. Even Sibbit was class when he first arrived. That more than makes up for the Dorn, Tyrer and J. Smith type players we've we've been lumbered with.
At least he hasn't signed us Carrige!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shaun McRae should be given another season, he's had many players who barely up to SL standard to work with in his time at Salford, so lets see what he can do with some better class players. Not performing to the teams full potential last season is probably more down to the whole Floridagate incident and it hurt the club really badly.
I would like Betts to come coach as a second assistant and hopefully one day take over the helm. Just think what he could teach our young forwards!!!!!!

Someday, somewhere, today’s empires are tomorrow’s ashes.: |
|
| Eh? What's going on here? This board isn't intended for positive comments about the coaching staff.
You know the drill: Shaun McRae doesn't know any modern coaching methods, has lost the dressing room, the players don't want to play for him, spends more time commentating on Sky than he does coaching and isn't even human. He's a slug.
Steve Simms. We don't know what he does, but we know he does it badly. And he has holidays in Australia.
Come on people. Get with the programme!
