Me brother Sam, a die hard Salford fan was playing rugby for his college team yesterday, he missed a tackle and a big lad landed on him. He was lay eating grass for around half an hour and the game was abandoned. When he came round he was drove to wigan infirmary where they said he needed a major operation on his lower spine, the doctor said he could never play rugby again as hel need a pin and plate inserted, hes absolutely heartbroken as he lives, eats and breathes the sport that hes been playing for 13 years since the age of 4.

He regulary looks on this forum and I'm sure a few get well messages may cheer him up maybe a little

P.S he played for Folly under 18s and the open age so some of the folly lads who come on here might know him

I suppose in situations like this the only consolation is that it could be so much worse.

No words will fill the void that playing such a great sport will leave but maybe we have a future coach who could pass on that love of the sport to others.

When sport is a big part of your life it is diifcult to be forced to stop playing, but hopefully he'll come to see there are other ways of being involved. Hope things go well for you all.

Extremely unfortunate and that's the nature of the beast in a tough sport like ours - there've been a lot of sad stories in the last year or so

It's terrible for the lad .....get well soon mate. I know it may not seem like it now, but at least he isn't going to be confined to a wheelchair as many young players have in the past.

Very bad news... and I wish him well.

As has been mentioned on here there are many other ways to be involved. I have always got more enjoyment from being involved from the touchlines rather than playing as having an influence on an entire team can be one hell of a buzz. He's a young lad, so if he decides to get into coaching... his options are huge. Coaching kids is hugely rewarding... as is coaching open age.

Fact is.... there are a lot of players playing at SL level.... and only 14 head coaches... it's a far bigger challenge to reach that level. Steve McCormack finished playing a lot earlier than he planned to... and he's took to coaching and done pretty well. Not a bad thing to aim for and perhaps a good bloke for your brother to have a chat with... I'd bet anything he'd be more than happy to chat to him. Give me a shout if you fancy getting in contact with him... as I'm sure I could set something up. He'd certainly make him feel a lot more positive about things.
