| in tonights manchester evening news ,neil barker says , swain must rank as one of the best ever overseas signing made by salford ,
that got me thinking better than
paul shaw
garry jack
neil baker
fati sini
jeff selby
in my opinion he does not even come close to any of these players or is it a case of the manchester evening news building players up again ,also what is he getting at with the comment
a few too many players in the salford ranks apppear to already have an eye on next season ,well that must be the coaches job to sort it out and if players are not preforming then have the balls to get rid ,and by the way season over how about giving lewis palfrey a chance

| Does he say 'THE' best... if so... I can see your point... If he says 'One of'... then maybe he's just missed printing your list out...
Considering some of the garbage we've had over the years... he may have a point.
Swain puts in consistently solid performances and doesn't let anyone down. He must be pulling his hair out right now.

| In an ideal world I would like to see a Salford City Reds team containing no overseas players in it.
In my opinion overseas players are on too much money compaired with British born players and quite frankly I am sick of ther site of these over-rated players from down under year in year out down at the Willows, some of them are just over here on a working holiday.
Of course there not all bad because at other Super League clubs they can attract a better class of player but not at Salford City Reds.
Over the many years I have watched Salford we have seen some real crap players from down under and the sooner we start giving home bred young players a chance to shine in the top grade the better.
At this time we have the likes of Lewis Palfey, Marlon Alker and Jack Spencer all waiting in the reserves for there big chance to prove themselves, but I'm afraid our head coach is not willing to take a chance on them yet.
Well in my opinion I think the time is right here and now to give these young players a chance, we've nothing to loose theres no relegation to worry about.
So come on Salford City Reds coaching staff give the young players on the books a chance now.
GET THEM BLOODED A.S.A.P.

Good post
As an Aussie myself, i am interested in seeing young British players coming through the ranks, not some has beens and never has beens who can't get a start in the NRL.
Super League is not like Premier League, it does not attract the best imported players in the world, only the leftovers and therefore clubs are better off producing their own.
A result of that would be more depth for the National team to choose from.

Couldn't agree more with this post. However if I was asked to pick one from the current crop it would be Swain. I also think to compare him with Paul shaw smithy is a tad unfair. shaw and amazing little half back who did wicked things with the ball and Swain a strong running hard tackling forward who always gives 100%. Both types of players while preferably English would have a place in my team.
