Some people (termed loosely) in this City make me ashamed to be Salfordian.

As the bloke said in last weeks advertiser (crime weekly) he suspects Jeremy clarkson has never been to Salford describing it as a backwater suburb with a few ducks and a starbucks. How nice that Salford would be !!!

On the plus side it makes me feel quite good about coming from that rough area of Salford where the Reds play, compared to some of the real s h i t holes this city has to offer.

Seems some local residents in Weatse must of felt left out and looted the Shop next door to the Weatse Pub taking the Beer & Cigs.

When the general populace were either 'brainwashed' by religion and/or under the yoke of industry or indeed away 'building the Empire' there was at least a general sense of purpose or sense of comradeship, albeit usually through communal suffering.

The trouble is today, that some people simply cannot handle the freedom of speech and opportunities that they have inherited. It is a sad fact that self discipline and basic humanitarian concerns are simply beyond a small section of people. Unfortunately, this minority have the ability to affect the lives of livelyhoods of a much greater number.

When there are parents failing at their task and schools not delivering a rounded education how can society at large be expected to make up for these deficiencies?

The weilding of a bigger stick is not the long term answer, but I'm afraid it needs to be the short term one. In the meantime, we can only do our best as individuals to make up for these moronic louts by setting the best example we can and hopefully bring more positive influences to bare. The example of so many people who came out to clean up the City and the comment of the father who lost his sons show that there is still hope left for us all.

"A teenager was "frog-marched" to a police station after his parents saw photos of him looting, a court heard.

Michael Fitzpatrick, 18, from Worsley, Greater Manchester, confessed to being one of the hundreds rioting and looting in Manchester city centre last week.

Fitzpatrick admitted three counts of burglary as a trespasser and one of handling stolen goods.

City magistrates remanded him in custody to be sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday.

He appeared in the dock with his mother, flanked by her husband.

The court was told Fitzpatrick worked in the family business, had never been in trouble with police before and intended to study at university."
