Some very touchy folk on here this week. As it happens I am a doctor. PHD in mechanical engineering from Brunel in 2005. I dont use my title unless i'm giving lectures or seminars, but anyone who has done a PHD has earned the right to call themselves it. Quite like the good doctor myself, has been a wake up call for the RFL. The only thing I didnt like is his public chest beating about ignoring the cap. Bad form, its there for a reason.

I'm sorry for my part in it, but, really looking at the thread title and some of the initial postings, it was always going to deteriorate into this.

IMO there seem to be some decent folk on here, you included, but, they are more than matched by Turkey correspondents who seem to see every visiting dissenter on any topic as bitter, jealous, trolls, when clearly it is not always the case.

On this thread, we even had the 'race card' thrown in for good measure by a bloke, presumably he is a bloke, that uses the foe button as a means of filtering any wider debate as he sees fit. His right of course, but, for infantile behaviour perhaps bordering on the inappropriate, I would suggest that your search isn't confined to Castleford and Warrington, look a little closer to home.

Admittedly, the same can be said about other boards ours included depending upon the topic and perhaps it may be as a result of your recent history, possible salvation and bright future but as a group why be so defensive?

I think it's a number of reasons. We've been so low and down for so long it's literally been like a shot of excitement Heroin injected directly into our Brains. Even the most pessimistic Turkey posters have been unable to resist this new and surprising feeling of things might actually get better. Some of us have got a little carried away with it, and dare I say it, become blinded by the possibilities. Most of us remain grounded and we see the person who has given us this feeling mocked by other fans. That's ok. I can live with that. It's inevitable.

However, the constant tirade of mostly infantile and occasionally vitriolic negativity starts to wear down the strongest walls. We see it from the Media as well as fans, from players and former players alike. It's not difficult to see why some are defensive about things. After all, we don't want this feeling of positivity generated by our salvation to fizzle into nothing, which it could do at any time. I think we are quietly fearful that this kind of thing never happens to us, or it's going to go off the rails because it's Salford.

We can be defensive, but we're new at this, so give us a little break every now and again.

Talk about disrespect.....Mr Barker in the MEN calling him a cash cow, how rude...mind it seems the good Dr is miffed he ain't got his own way again and clubs/agents are increasing player prices.

Fair comment Butcher. I am old enough to remember the Salford team of the 70's, success and big money signings, so it can happen. Yes the where with all in those days with your Variety Centre and injection of cash from Brian Snape to sign the likes of Watkins was probably better received by the RL 'family' than your modern day saviour's attempts to gain a foothold in Rugby League.

Is that a sign of the times, the ability to outbid RU, or a reflection of the men involved and particularly their methods, perhaps a bit of both? Your new guy has certainly caused more than a ripple of exciement throughout the game. We know that we are no one's 'second team' and to some extent revel in that (our form of defence?) and without wishing to cause an 'Our Sugar Daddy is better than Your Sugar Daddy' confrontation, Moran has may be been more successful in going about his RL business

As I thought he doesn't call Koukash a cash cow at all, he says he shouldn't be treated as one. Not difficult to understand, is it?

Whilst reading is a case of understanding how letters combine to make words. The next stage in reading is understanding how words make sentences and decifering the meaning from those sentences.

As for the disrespect arguement. It all seems a little woe is me!

Plenty of RL bosses get it in the neck from their own and other clubs fans. As for the article in question, it does seem to be a bit of a joke. Koukash wants more of a free market, but where that free market makes the price too high he wants price regulation.

I'm sure every RL chairman would want the rules best fitting to suit his own club, however generally the best way of doing this is to convince other chairmen to go the same way. That is the fine art of debate and how most votes are won and lost.

If he wants no salary cap then he needs to see where his point hit stoney ground with those key voters and get it right next time. As for getting quotes on transfer fee's that he thinks are overpriced. This is exactly what the Chelsea Chairman came up against and what the current Man City board get when they put in for a player.

If I knew the spending capacity of every who purchased from me then I would drive a harder bargain. That's one of the basics of economics, get as much as you can from every customer.

Dont treat him like a cash cow is the same as calling him a cash cow . The basis of the story is that people are doing that. Same difference.

Equally amazing that Salford fans are now sticking up for Barker when the rest of the forum is full of posts about how badly he covers Salford.

Amazingly, opinion is polarized on Barker among Salford fans. Some stick up for him, and some don't. If you are amazed that some Salford fans would stick up for him when others don't, you are easily amazed.

While I have no intention of being dictated to by an individual who,on another forum,described Dr Koukash as being 'the biggest bluff in rugby league' I think it strange that you should read any article,either in the MEN or on here,which is under a headline where the name Koukash is written,given your opinion of him.

While wholly disrespectful I am quite pleased,as I feel Dr Koukash thrives on the unjust criticism and it increases his desire to prove people wrong.
He does seem to be admired by some very well regarded and qualified people.
I am neither well regarded or qualified,but I am very pleased to be experiencing what has happened in recent times.

I agree that his methods are not what I would do, but a guy who lives his life like he does/has can do what he wants. That's the way he does things, us arguing the merits and pitfalls have no bearing on anything. If it winds you or others up, enough to come on a forum and whine about it, I suggest taking time out to relax once in a while. Life's too short to worry about such trivia. I suggest that you could take your pet monkey Richardson and feed him a few relaxants too he seems awfully angry.
