Agree with most of this. We did play well last night however still managed to make a few errors at bad times. Certainly some good signs though and a few positives to build on.

Were you not impressed about halfway through the 2nd half when he was the last defender and positioned himself when Pat Richards was in possession,with the advantage,and JV anticipated the kick through,got down smartly and gained possession himself ?
I never saw his father do that and he was just a tad more than useful.( And his father wasn't up against Men of Steel or with the honours Richards has in the sport.)

I get the impression,after watching the game last night,that the coaching staff are working their bits off,the players are responding and the pride and determination displayed by the players should be appreciated.
JV and any other full back will have to work very hard to find a place in the side.I just appreciate that they want to play for Salford.

i agree thought vievers showed some good touches when he came on and will keep patten on his toes

PV wasn't exactly blessed with natural pace but he was a damn good fullback in a successful Saints team. Other very reliable fullbacks without natural pace include Steve Hampson and Paul Wellens.

Positioning and how you read a game can compensate for a lack of real pace at fullback.

We seem to be lacking some depth in the backs. If nothing else, we have some extra cover in the event of injuries.

I agree without Josh Vievers we don't have much cover for Patten. I suppose Ashley Gibson could play there at a pinch but failing that it would be a case of moving perhaps Joel Moon there and losing arguably our best attacking centre.

I've heard varying figures but I'd think somewhere around 4k.

Aswell as Josh Veivers , we have Tom Whitehead, Niall Evalds & Jack Holmes ?
Gibson in all his time at Leeds or Salford has only ever been at Wing or Centre .

Gibson played fullback in the preseason friendly against Leigh last off season, even looked quite good joining in the line.
