| Offiah is doing pretty what most agents do - it's just the fact that he's higher profile than other agents that we hear more about it. I've not seen a story on it but if he has literally been quoted as saying that they want a "king's ransom" then he's more of a tw@ than I already thought he was - completely unprofessional thing to say.

Hopefully he realises that Myler is contracted to us for another year, and will still then be young enough for Salford to be able to demand a kings ransom for anyone else to sign him from us.

| The grass isn't always greener is something all our young players should be looking at.
Having said that if we do lose Richie then so be it.
It would be a sad day if it happens but the club will move on as it always has.
It is a credit to our scouting and development teams that we now have players that other clubs want, when have we been able to say that in the past.

| Just a thought but when Robbie Pauls contract expires at the end of this season (I think) shouldn't there be a healthy wedge left in the salary account? Why not use that towards keeping the young lads?

| If you lose Myler, Ratchford and Turner, I would think the franchaise idea is failing.
The concern in the Championship is that if we blood some young lads and they turn out good, they'll get cherry picked. How can we keep someone if Salford who are already in SL can't?
I said at the time that losing Myler was the worst of the lot, and it's proved to be the case, he's irreplaceable because talent like his is unfortunately rare over here. Turner and Ratchford inparticular have both always impressed me.

| AJ Viking you make a good point, but in a "free" society how can you deny anyone the opportunity to move to gain better wages, better prospects, better training etc. if that is what is on offer?.
I'm sure all of us posting here have done that at some point in our careers.
Is the answer to move to some kind of draft system like they have in American sport?

| Offiah will be thinking of himself too.... the higher the wage for Myler... the bigger cut for Offiah.

Tha could only work if all the clubs had similar financial resources. You can't force a player to play for one club if there is another club offering higher wages - in fact the American draft system would not be legally enforceable in Europe. (It may even be the case that it only works in the USA by mutual consent, and probably breaks some interpretation of their Constitution.)

With the ridiculous amount of money that rookie players get, I don't think they care where they end up, although there have been instances when players have refused to play for the team that drafts them.
The NFL also shares a certain amount of revenue between teams equally - I could imagine that would create much more of a fuss if it was ever introduced.

Exactly what I was thinking. All hype, no real substance...

| Papers do not have to tell the truth to sell. However, evne allowing for selective quoting from a series of questions,
To forecast what we can offer the lads (in terms of wage AND in terms of publicity) depends on three issues:
- our new stadium ( not only a publicity bonus but central to the business plans of our future)
- our success in the League : it allows his talents to shine which a losing team does not
- funding streams - we do need (like so many clubs) to stop depending on one person.
These all are out of our hands and, to be honest with the fans on here, none make me optimistic. This will not stop me supporting Salford in the future. At least the beers are better in National League.
9and most of the fans)

| Rumour has it there is a press conference at Warrington on Friday. To announce the capture of Myler. A rumour is all it is, but its come from somewhere. I've not posted anything on the Warrington board, because, as I said, its just a rumour. I was just wondering if anyone on here had heard anything?

| If Offiah reckons we should be offering a kings ransom to Myler to keep him maybe we need to ensure that any clubs who come in with an offer for him have to pay a kings ransom to obtain his early release from a legally binding contact with 18 months yet to run.
If the worst case scenario did occur and he left does any transfer revenue go towards the salary cap for next season as surely then that would considerably bump up what we have to spend on his replacement (meaning it would have to be an Aussie as no fee's seem to be involved any longer from the NRL). I would hate to see him go but if looked at it from that point of view a very good replacement could be sourced.
