I spoke to a few Sale fans on Friday night and all were unhappy with the plan... the transport issues of getting from north Cheshire to Barton and home were putting them off. They were aware of the motorway jams, the distance from the tram and nearest train staions, and the time added that would interrupt the social nature of going to the game.
I talked two to coming to Bradford today as well (they are in the area and were up for a RL match).

I'll bet they were impressed.

[iSale Sharks are poised to announce a ground-sharing move with Super League club Salford City Reds.

The Sharks have been linked for some time with a switch to the new £26million City of Salford Stadium, which opened earlier this year, and have called a press conference at the ground on Wednsday [4-4-12 morning "to make a major club announcement".

Sale have spent the last nine years at Stockport's Edgeley Park after moving from the club's Heywood Road base but are thought to have struck a deal with Peel Holdings and Salford City Council, the joint owners of the 12,000-seater stadium at Barton, just off the M60 motorway.

This is where Salford arrive at a cross roads, either the presence of a bigger club of a rival code (that hates RL) will prompt and trigger the board to up a gear with marketing or the usual rugby league apathy and passiveness will cause the club to become the 2nd best at the SCS.

Maybe the move from Weaste was a mistake if the club's future isnt as bright as we all expected. Union is never to be trusted as a system and corporate rival. Maybe many junior/amateur RU clubs have great relations with RL clubs but at the top end of the ladder, both rugby clubs will be competing for the corporate meal ticket...union has the edge I'm afraid unless RL clubs take action.

Interesting that "The North West's Team" (sic) are to make the announcement from Barton. Seems a foregone conclusion (as we knew some time ago).

Before we begin seppuku or gnashing of teeth, it has nothing to do with the club nor can we , as visitors who watch tenants at a stadium largely owned by an amoral company, affect this decision.

All we can do is to become the bigger support so becoming indispensible to the stadium company.

what's happened to the banners that were in the east stand (think it was either the London or Hull game) ?

The East Stand was open for Leeds & Wigan, whereas it was closed for London.

So today is the day. We as Salford fans need to stop pushing the "oh we're just tenants' line and stop meekly accepting our fate. Barton is a ground built by Salford council for Salford RL. It's a ground we gave up our home of 110 years to play at and to see Sale muscle in after putting in not one ounce of effort to get it built really sticks in my throat. I await the day's events with interest.

Sorry im not posting doom and gloom as is the norm on this tread, but does anyone else see the potential for
an offer to Sale season ticket holders to come and visit the stadium on maybe, oh I dont know, possibly a match day. A lot of them will no doubt want to have a look around before next season, and this would be a good opportunity to get a few extra bums on seats, that would normally never dream of watching League.
