Your correct the UCP tripe shop opposite Pendleton Church was always top quality.

For someone who saw the seventies side yes it's mostly tripe.it certainly was tripe at Cas in the cup. Yes I am still going,although I know a lot who are not. Instead of having ago at me you want to do a little survey,and ask people why they have stopped going.They might tell you it's tripe.

Not having a go at you at all,I was just clarifying a point.
I feel that we have been playing decent rugby most of the time and for short periods we haven't,for which we have been punished,but that is Rugby League.
The seventies was a great time to be a Salford fan but even then the crowds were far from being the best and on some occasions we were beaten by worse sides and even then we had people in the popular side stand passing comments that David Watkins was too small and Kenny Gill was too slow and Albert Lucketti was the fastest man at the Willows.

The Club is going in the right direction on the field. If we didn't have the points deduction we'd be sitting comfortably in the top half of the table. We've certainly not played tripe this year. Inconsistent. Sure. Poor on occasions. Sure. Tripe? Nope. Not at all. We can't go around comparing everything to the side in the seventies, different time, different game. We should compare ourselves to where we were last year, and the year before.

If we have fans that still watch matches but still see 'tripe' then I don't really know what to say. It says a lot about our fans on the other hand...

We constantly hinder ourselves,
we have effectively squandered the impact of moving to a new stadium , went bust , then shouted from the rooftops when the new owner arrived , but signed 'unsuitable ' players and wallowed in the lower reaches for the last two years.

finally with a stable coaching set up & a hardworking & effective team , we have lost the drive to promote , and when we do get the opportunity to broaden our appeal & reach out to new fans , its the ' wrong news ' ( 4th rnd loss to Cas - point deductions etc ) .

its not apathy , its resignation .

I wonder how many of our current fan base actually saw that 70's team. My first season was 89/90 so bar a couple of seasons I've seen 27 years of utter dog plop!

I'm the only rugby league fan in the entire family so It's not even in the blood! Something made me catch the bug and I'll never stop watching Salford until the day I die. Yes It's bloody hard work at times but that's what sport is about!

I watched that great team of the 70's. I am still as ardent a supporter now as I was then, but as I live in Gran Canaria, I rarely get to see the team play live. But I think we have a good team now. Different era, different qualities. One day, someday, I hope in my lifetime, we will win something again.

The problem is and always has been simple.Win games,consistently.Make a noise for the right reasons and people will watch Salford.The League table and Cup performance are what sells the Club.If you have a headline which says Salford top the League and or beat Wigan,Leads,Saints regularly.Headlines that say fantastic rugby they will come but not before.Too many false dawns on the playing side

That's it in a nutshell, and I can't quite believe we're having this debate again. You'll always be able to get crowds through the gate in some hellhole like Castleford or Hull where there's literally nothing to do but grow rhubarb or marry your cousin, but we're never going to get crowds to stick until we've got a successful team. Any marketing effort to see a team finish in the bottom 4 and limp out of the cup is money down the drain.

Apathy: lack of interest or enthusiasm! pretty much sums up the Salford public when it comes to watching Salford rugby league club in my book.
