Andy Wilson said in the comments thread underneath the Gleeson article in The Guardian.....
Quote: "re the salford thing, i'm hopeful it's going to be positive - basically the rfl, without whom the salford peel deal wouldn't have happened, have recognised that when you take salf, swinton, oldham and rochdale together (leaving leigh, wigan, widnes, wire, saints as a different group) the current state of play is pretty grim. yet there is still stuff to work with, and reasons why the area is very important to the game - media city the most obvious one of them, but also grand final, magic at etihad, corporate manc, etc. salford have actually done tons of good work along these lines in last few years (in trafford, manc as well as salford) but it's been undermined by on and off field problems at higher levels.
i don't know any details, but i've been told this could be a really exciting new beginning. so fingers crossed. no hint of mergers or anything as far as i know.'"
Not sure i entirely understand it. Interesting that he talks of peel being a done deal. But sounds like it might be more hope than anything concrete
