Good idea, we can't keep holding it in just England and Australia. Hope they can fit a game in just over the border in Catalonia too.

Why is it a good idea?

It was a "good idea" to hold it in North America but they prefer other sports there. The crowd for the Denver test was so poor they pulled the World Cup.

It was a "good idea" to play GB.v. Australia in Coventry attended by hundreds of kids. After the game all the kids went back to their Rugby Union clubs and the Bears continued their struggles

Why "Catalonia" didn't Catalans and Warrington get a five figure crowd playing there and afterwards spoke of a pro-team in Spain. Nobody there wanted to back it.

And the biggest WHY of all is why deprive the loyal RL fans of Rugby League in England and Australia of access to the world cup??

If it is every 4 years we have to wait eight years to go see it live anyway.

The fact is if you want the World cup to achieve some growth or at least stave off decline in it's heartlands you don't deprive the casual fans of the game here and in Aussie of the world cup, every time I have attended World cups here it gets thousands of non regular-RL fans into our stadiums, They can carry on watching Pro-RL and boost our game

We are still on this idea that showcase the game to new audiences and it will take off. Well it won't because Rugby Union has North America wrapped up just like France Rugby Union have the game wrapped up there. Why do we think Catalans and Toulouse want to sign English players and play in England??

Dont you ever give up ?

Of course it's a good idea.
Take the game somewhere "new" and attract some investment from elsewhere.
The clue is in the name "World Cup".
As for depriving "loyal RL fans access", no they're not, it's a couple of hours on a plane and hotels etc are cheaper than London etc.
It's ridiculous that "the best game in the world" can only stage major events in 2 places.
Having said that, there is no guarantee of success and there will need to be some serious hard work done, to sell out some of the games.
As for your argument about RU having N. America and France wrapped up, you could include England in the same comment.
They should be congratulated for their ambition but, as I said, there will be a great deal of effort required to make it a success.
A RLWC final in the Camp Nou would be a tremendous event - count me in.

It makes sense to stage the event in the South West of France where RL is currently played.
Mind you, it will be a hard sell to fill even smaller grounds for the group fixtures.

RL in the UK isnt huge and in France, smaller still and RU have huge amounts of control in certain areas.
They wont take too kindly to having the "riff raff" descending upon their territory.

not a problem with france holding the tournament as it is a world cup but not every body wants to travel abroad tho and as not everyone can afford to travel abroad it will be a massive risk just hope the RFL doesn't have to help out footing the bill if it all goes tits up

Totally agree.
At least they are planning a little way forward and really, there is no excuse for not getting it right.
The sport has to have some ambition.
As for France as a host, it's a hell of a lot closer and cheaper than Australia icon_biggrin.gif

he's expressing his opinion but as usual you latch on to it as a negative I personally think it will flop but at least I'm willing to watch them do it as long as the RFL don't have to cover the cost like it did in America you have to at least accept that

What's about a dual British / French bid? That enables you to determine the appetite for major comps in France and give you the surety of British crowds (ish). Could have both Semi finals in France and the final here. However you cut it though, there must be a half-way house to enable France to host major parts of a World Cup without so much pressure.

No reserves, but resilience, persistence and determination are omnipotent.:

Careful with your stress levels, but, - news of the North American League does present the opportunity to take the tournament to North America.
Hemel Stags may feel aggrieved/happy (?) with getting some coin for their Licence now Ottawa are confirmed elsewhere from League 1.
First France and then North America! Wow! When that Super League club at the east of the M62 is still for sale...

I think they could get away with England's group games being in England as France were at home in 2013. But given that almost all the 2021 WC is up North, they should take those games to London next time.

It's not about me stop trying to demonise me, just answer the points made.

Better still explain that sentence above? In that sentence you automatically assume that taking the game "somewhere new" attracts investment??

It doesn't though does it, they took the game to North America both the pro club game and international RL in Denver and it made a massive loss. It didn't attract any return on the investment

don't you realise that?? It's simple enough?
