“Application to Euro XIII is open to any domestic club throughout Europe. We already have more than 25 applications from 16 different nations for the 2021 competition and anyone else who wishes to apply still has a short time left to do so. More than one club can apply from a country but the competition will only allow one participant from each nation for 2021."

I have to admit, I double checked the date
The source of the article appears to be the Chasing Kangaroos podcast. It is easy to find on Spotify.
The general idea is that the want to have an 8 team competition with a maximum of 1 team per country. With each team having home grown players.
It is a collaboration of the Italian and Spanish Rugby Leagues. Spain is basically the guy behind Valencia Hurricanes. I think the problem they have is that the RFL are not keen to admit them to league 1 and to be honest it is hard to see how a team made up of Spaniards would be competitive in that league. This seems to have been born out of interest caused by the Featherstone friendly earlier in the year.
I have a few concerns regarding this;
1. This plan does not seem to include the backer of Red Star Belgrade, you would think that any European group should include him given he has already got the Balken Super League https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkan_Super_League. I am sure he would want to be at the centre of such a venture not simply a participant. This smells of infighting before it has started.
2. They seem to be talking about the wrong things. They spent a lot of time talking about their draft system, which in a nutshell is a way of distributing a core of 30+ centrally contracted, club professionals to add a bit of quality and equality to league. To me this is like saying you are going to build a bridge and then start talking about what colour it is going to be. The main thing should be the finances, which they say they have got but are unwilling to say how much and who. Until we find out more "Euro XIII" will be filed next to Castleford/Wakefield's new stadium designs.
In the end there is already a Balken Super League covering 5 countries, so such a competition isn't as ground breaking as it sounds. But, as Toronto has told us, if you have someone backing it financially and they are in it for the long haul then this could happen.

| At least the RLEF haven't taken their bat and ball home like you might expect of an RFL release. They seem happy to work with the group who have made the proposal. "That group is not sanctioned by the governing body, however, the RLEF has already invited those behind the proposal to formally present to their working group. The RLEF is keen to hold discussions with investors who they can work with to progress the sport for the benefit of all."

| Quote: Donnyman "icon_rolleyes.gif Oh dear that's just baiting people. Are you a serious poster? I thought you would welcome this?.
If they can find the money to have showcase games across Europe, then maybe it will pull in more people who want to play RL to a good level and it could be a source for new talent here. That's exactly what we need. Your record sadly is one of supporting the idea the top English talent here in Superleague all being offloaded to clubs in America and Europe to boost some sort of fantasy league.
The proposal looks like it promotes the development of European RL players, something your Les Catalans do not do
That's interesting, of all the alleged ''bait'' posts posted on this forum including posts from yourself, you focus on mine.
This ''fantasy league'' you mention is more concrete than anything that you have put forward over the past couple of years. I know that you in a previous life suggested that Toronto weren't going to be accepted into Super league and look where we are now.So in short you don't have the best record of predicting the way forward for our game.
If you believe that achieving 9k in attendance, new sponsorship and media coverage in North America isn't successful, then I don't see how you can see this amateur set up will be.
Although I do hope that this new league is successful.

There is very little point in having none UK teams in the below Super League and especially League 1. If I was a fan of a team outside Super League I would be pretty fed up of losing to a full time team that is only in the league to jump through some hoops. League 1 for example have had Toronto (2017), Toulouse (2016) and to a certain extent Bradford (201icon_cool.gif. They get a two year break in 2019 and the soon to be quashed 2020 season then Ottawa (2021) and New York (2020). It is almost as if we are punishing fans for supporting teams at this level. I can understand why there is no desire to have Valencia/Belgrade/Verona who are either going to be full time money sides or more likely massively under-skilled teams made up of European amateur players.
Having a separate comp for these teams makes a lot more sense and entering in full time teams at a higher level will do a lot for League 1.
