If I was short sighted I could become a referee!: |
|
| Can anyone enlighten me on what he is actually doing for his money. After loads of Hype when he was appointed all that has happened is we have scrapped the eights and made a few minor rule changes which have made little difference to the game ,

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| Think he’s spent a lot of time cleaning out Big Niges office from the coke cans, crisp packets and take away containers.

Given that Robert Elstone can command a £500k salary from any number of football clubs and businesses with interests in sport, you can be sure that he's not at SL for the pay cheque. His BIG job is delivering an improved TV deal when the rights come up in a couple of years. He will be spending the time in the build-up to that negotiation working on that mission above all others. Fans are quick to criticise RL for short-term thinking: that's not why Robert was brought in. This is a 3-5 year project AT LEAST as all strategic marketing policies should be. Give the bloke time.

Have to agree. Carter at Wakefield appeared to be rubbish in his first two seasons. Little did we know the excellent work he was doing behind the scenes. To go forward sometime you need to or at least appear to go backwards. This guy may fail but he’s no mug and he’ll give it his best shot I’m sure.

| He’s not been doing the job long and he’s completely changed the league set-up. One-up, one-down, 5 team play-offs and no Million Pound Game. That’s a huge change.
Also the rule changes you’ve said have hardly made a difference have seen much more action with less viewing time wasted. And the Golden Point extra time is a great exciting change.

Hate the golden point tbh, it’s stupid. RL was never a game you could play for draw so utterly pointless attempt to create jeopardy. Other than that ok so far.

TBF we change the format every 3/4 years anyway so it’d would changed regardless of who was in charge.

I agree, even though Leeds benefitted from it last week I still think we should’ve stuck with draws. It’s not like theirs loads of draws during the year anyway and whilst last week it was won on the first set of 6 with a unexpected long effort we could easily see 10 mins of scrappy poor attempts at 1 pointers the next time.

If his remit is primarily to secure a decent TV deal, then, I guess we all have to wait and see.
However, he certainly missed a trick by not finding a way to include Toronto and Toulouse in SL.
We've been hearing about just how good Toronto will be for the game of RL and yet, a restructure, designed to "improve" the sport
left them outside the top flight.
Now, either their inclusion doesn't actually add anything to the game or, those in charge are just daft, again, time will tell.

| Toronto is a joke , they may as well be called knockabout Nomads . They do not play in Canada , have no Canadian players and have been skint once already .

If you thought the Leeds cas extra time was exciting then you are an imbecile, and people wonder why southerners view rugby league as a sport for dumb northerners, as soon as the game ended all square the only outcome would be 2 Pts to Leeds considering cas had no one to kick a dg

Exactly. Whereas Leeds had drop goal specialist Brad Dwyer. A foregone conclusion.
