| In recognition of the financial plight of both clubs I'd suggest turning this, rather meaningless, game into a sevens match.

Isn't that exactly what you would expect him to say ?
A 55% cut in central funding is huge and despite the brave positive words, Fev (and Leigh) must be hurting like hell financially.
The Championship will be a great comp next season, with Fev, Leigh, Bradford, York, Toulouse all fighting hard for the coveted SL spot.
It may not appeal to masses outside the RL world but, they ought to have some of those games televised.

Which is why players out of contract are being offered reduced (based on current) value contracts. They aren't spending money they won't have and have budgeted based on the reduced income for next season. That's not being in financial trouble. And given their bigger than most Championship clubs' crowds and the income from non rugby related activities they'll still be one of the richest PT clubs around.

| I think 3rd place Batley should take our (Leigh) place in the final. 3 players quite the club last week, Will Dagger is unfit now. So most we can have for next week's game is 14 players.

| My honest advice to Leigh (and they are 'my' club) would be to concede the final now, rather than risk further embarrassing the Game, and putting players' health and welfare at risk again. It was 100% unacceptable yesterday, to expect thirteen players (down to twelve, after ten minutes) to play the full 80 minutes, without substitutions. The club has a duty of care to their players, and they failed miserably in that duty, yesterday - however willing those thirteen were.
To compete in a final, with anything less than a full complement of players, is to hold the Game in contempt and, even worse, to put the players' well-being at risk.

Agree, it should be a great competition next year. 'fax fans will be miffed you've missed them out, Batley can't do as poorly as they have this season and Sheffield also seem to be recruiting a fair squad. There'll also be Widnes and one of London/Toronto in the mix too.

Is a challenge from Bradford or York likely to materialise? Are they recruiting or going with much the same as this year?

Toulouse, Halifax, Widnes and London/Toronto will be the top 4 sides next year........ Leigh on current form will be lucky to stay up and Fev will be mid table.... Bradford and York are unknowns..... But I can see another half and half scenario with a top 6 streets ahead of a bottom 8....so nearly half/over half scenario.

Erm we aren’t in the championship just yet.
I think Workington might have something to say about that.
Let’s see how we fair on Sunday first.

Sadly it does look that way. It's never nice to see a club go to the wall, but it does highlight the situation we find ourselves as a sport in the UK. Either we atract more revenue through fans, sponsors and media rights, all have a sugar daddy, or cut a cloth accordingly.
Halifax would seem to be the prime example of what can be done, whilst Leigh are a sad example of what happens when the sugar daddy decides he's had enough....

| Leigh are a long way from liquidation. Even if it's as bad as some would like to believe the next step would be administration. Someone will pick the club up for a song and they'll continue, probably in L1, but they will continue.
