Woody: Can I pour you a draft, Mr. Peterson? Norm: A little early, isn't it Woody? Woody: For a beer? Norm: No, for stupid questions.:19722.gif

This is not just a reaction to last night. Most teams have done it at some point for one reason or another.
Rugby League has always prided itself on the toughness of it's own players. The quote "Rugby players spend 80 minutes pretending that they are not injured whereas footballers spend 90 minutes pretending they are" has been an apt line. In most cases this is still true, but players feigning injury is creeping in and is spoiling the game.
There seems to be 3 main occasions when this happens. Either time wasting, getting your teammates a breather or trying to gain a penalty. How many times have we seen a player go down "injured" in front of the posts, when his team have conceded a dropout? It is to give his side a breather and take the advantage away from the attacking team. It is gamesmanship at best, cheating at worst.
Imo some rule changes are required. Sorting out the genuinely injured from the cheats is obviously difficult and the injured players may on occasions feel aggrieved, but it would be the same for all teams. It would hopefully help keep the game going. If the player "injured " is in possession of the ball he should hand it to a teammate to play the ball on his behalf, while he receives treatment. This is what used to happen on a regular basis. If a player is injured the trainer could come on as they do know while the game continues. Otherwise he leaves the field of play, as happens in football. He would then miss the next 6 tackles. IMO this would stop the cheating pretty quickly. No player would want to be off the ground whether his side were defending a set on there own line or in possession of the ball. If the player injured is substituted then the sub would come straight on. There would be other obvious exceptions such as head injuries or where a penalty has been given for foul play.
The other thing that has crept into the game is when a player getting up to play the ball falls down claiming interference or holding down. At present the ref just waves his arms telling him to get up. If the player was penalised it would cut down on this offence. No player in possession would want to risk giving a penaly away.
Only ideas but something needs to be done. Fans of all clubs are pretty fed up with the antics creeping into the game.

Thats one of my bug bears, as a tackler, you can be pinged for any one of a million offences, but as a ball carrier, you can fall over, trap arms, entangle legs, move off the mark, in some cases get up and play on and also offload the ball after held has been called. and the ref in 99/100 times just says get on with it and won't penalise you.

I thought the speight of players going down “injured” when there was a drop out was bad enough, but if what Catalans were doing last night is the future of RL I want no part in it. That is not what RL is (or should be) about.

There has been an implicit agreement between all parties in RL for as long as I’ve been watching/involved in the sport, that players don’t fake injury. If that is no longer there then it raises massive issues for the game. Not just about it’s credibility but also more practically for our injury and head injury protocols. Currently a team can get a free interchange if a player goes off with concussion and the game is stopped to help provide assistance to that player. However that is all based on the premise that the player is abiding by the implicit agreement not to fake injury.

If now that assumption is challenged can we afford to stop the game as often as it was stopped last night for the embarrassing scenes that we saw?

To see the game stopped for player welfare reasons and then see the same player spring to his feet when his job of slowing the game has been done is not a sight I want to see in RL.

Last night's time wasting from catalan was pathetic. Agree with the sitting out tackles but would make it a time penalty (maybe a couple of minutes).
In regards to the ptb make the attacking team play the ball properly like in the rules and a hell of a lot of this cheating would disappear overnight along with the associated penalties and errors (like what happened in nrl)

Have sympathy with the Rhinos fans on this one. When Catalans beat us in the cup, they were terrible at stopping the game when the Giants were attacking their line. Have to feel sorry for the ref as his hands are a bit tied as he has to make an assessment of the seriousness of the injury/non-injury. We had the same ref for the League game last week, and I think he was pretty savvy to what went on the fortnight before, and ignored some of the antics which made for a better game.

I am a Catalan Fan .I was there on Wednesday . I think that some of the injuries were feigned-Gigot was the worst offender-but that the injuries of Mead and Yaha were definitely not feigned.I do think something should be done about this. It is the curse of soccer. But real injuries are much more likely in Rugby League and The Refs. are being told not to take risks

Why don't we go back to only stopping the game for head injuries?

Legs and arms can be fixed in the background or the players get back in the line. We seem to be hell bent on slowing the game down. Quick tap penalties are a thing of the past, refs persistently pulling in players to talk to them unnecessarily..........

I agree. In addition, when the players play for a penalty and then the ref doeant gove it, the fans are then up in arms with the ref, and the more it goes on in the game, and the ref isnt falling for it, the mòre the crowd are on his back and until they watch it back, feel aggrieved by the ref. I am not sticking up for refs, but cut the theatrics, let us enjoy the game. Its not pantomime...

As much as it was probably over the top at the the time do we need to penalise players for diving or shouting at the red too much like the infamous penalty by Ganson against Burrow for waving his arms?

Some kind of punishment is needed for what happened in the Catalans game as what happened there is not what I want to see in the sport.
