Pretty sad story being presented in a US court:

Jarryd Hayne will likely deny the charges, but could still have a judgment against him, especially if he fails to contest the case.
What will happen to Jarryd Hayne as regards playing in the NRL is anybody's guess. |

Yet again, we have a person who legally speaking is innocent (because they haven't been proven guilty) being named and shamed. This needs to stop.
Also, should this matter be a civil suit? This is a criminal matter surely?

The legal authorities in USA dropped criminal charges for lack of evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. |

Standard California law. Civil suit for damages requires "balance of probability" not "beyond reasonable doubt" and does not require a criminal conviction. The most notable example being OJ Simpson. Interestingly they both played for the 49ers (wonder if they both used Johnnie Cochran as their lawyer). |

Yes I'm aware of each and it's the same in the UK I just query how she can sue him for damages for something that would be a criminal matter and he hasn't been convicted of?
He's either guilty of the crime or he's not and I don't get how someone could be awarded damages for being the victim of something that in the eyes of the law didn't happen? |

HOW MANY TIMES?????
£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.
There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them.
