I understand why it was brought in, to avoid penalising a side when a player is injured, giving them time to check him out. But for me, when a player leaves the field, although it's a free sub, they shouldn't be allowed back on. They certainly shouldn't then be allowed to use the free sub every 10 mintues to spell their hookers as Salford were doing tonight. At a push, the least they should do is prevent a player returning to the field if he's taken off for 2 free subs.

To be fair, Tomkins had a massive cut on his head. It's not Salford or the player who decides he comes off under the head injury rule. Brining got a head knock, and once again it wasn't him or Salford who decided that.

I know what you're saying, and I agree with your sentiment, but what are the RFL and medical people supposed to do? If someone is deemed to be tested for a head knock there's not much can be done.

What if a team has used all their replacements? If a player gets a head knock does he get taken off and the team has to finish the game with 12 men? Basically penalising a team for having a hurt man.

It's only the sub on that's free. The sub off counts doesn't it.

I thought it was a free sub both ways, for 15 mins. If the player fails the test - Like Fages and Johnson last night - then the sub counts.
If he passes the test like Tomkins last night, then the sub doesn't count.
