| The best back by a distance - three centres stand out in the SL era for me: Lyon, Matt Gidley and Brad Godden
The best player in the SL era - tough one I would say Paul Sculthorpe if you discount Andrew Johns 3 game stint at Warrington

Keith Senior has to be up there too for me, above Godden.
Regards best player, i agree with Sculthorpe.

Agree on Senior I meant to say centres that have come to SL from Australia - the other one would be Richie Blackmore who on his day was world class - Wembley 99 comes to mind

| I only saw Sculthorpe at the end of his career, so I'd have to say Jamie Lyon is the most gifted player I have seen play for my club.
Just an absolute class act.

i see what you mean - yeah Blackmore was a beast when he was in the mood, unfortunately that wasn't on a regular basis, bit like Kevin Iro.

| I can't think of anyone other than Jamie Lyon who you could say was 100% skill, he just had that X factor about him and was a consistent game changer. He wasn't a big bloke but he had a great tackling technique as well. Talking of Sculthorpe don't know if he was a bit jealous of Jamie grabbing the match headlines, but on quite a few occasions he wouldn't give Jamie Lyon a scoring pass and selfishly go solo instead.

| He was an absolute revelation for Saints. He came to us on the back of a self imposed semi-retirement from the NRL. Everyone said he'd be back in the bush within a few weeks and didn't care for the game. I don't think I've ever seen a more enthusiastic and committed overseas player. He was consistently outstanding and integrated with the club and his teammates amazingly quickly. His lack of representative honours was as much of his own doing as the selectors, for his ability he should have been consistently in or around Origin and international honours.

| He was very laid back as well and his soul purpose was to win games in the sport, I think winning medals and personal honours was secondary. Very humble person who didnt like a lot of fuss, he won the Man of Steel Trophy but he left it in his rental home in Rainford when he returned back to OZ.
I think "killer" will now concentrate of killing wild hogs in his bashed up jeep.

Richie Barnett (the Kiwi) was extremely good. IMO up there with Lyon

They can't have played that many games together, surely?

| Just on Jamie Lyon, the commentators last week (I think it was), it might have been Rabbits, were talking about approaching 1500 career points.
Were they including the 500-odd he scored for Saints? Well, what do you think?
Bloody self-regarding Aussies!
