Super Salford Slaughter the SaintsA big win for Saints, and a big loss for Salford, in last weeks opening round of Super League XXI suggested that tonight's game at the A J Bell Stadium was a foregone conclusion. Saints are second favourites to end the season top of the pile, but only Wakefield are less favoured by the bookies than the Red Devils.



Kieran Cunninghams' Saints were without the services of Roby, Lomax and Burns, and with The Red Devils coach Ian Watson the latest to be in the Marwan Koukash firing line, he'd have been hoping his side could capitalise and show a vast improvement over last weeks losing performance at the KC Stadium.



But few people were prepared for what they were about to witness.

I can't see Saints getting into the top 4 this season.

I think it's too early to make a claim like that. I don't particularly like their squad and I can certainly see them missing out, but there's still enough quality there to beat anyone on their day, you can't totally write them off yet.

It's really shaping up to be a good season though. I think all of last years top 8 can make a case for a top 4 finish and you can't really ignore Salford after last night.

If I had to pick a top 4 now I would go for Wigan, Leeds, Warrington and Hull (not necessarily in that order), but who knows, by Easter that might have changed completely.

salford were on fire lastnight, saints came with the wrong attitude and got burned

murdoch masila looks a top signing for salford in the 2nd row, certainly going to cause some problems with carney outside him

I agree and its fantastic for the game. The Saints/Wigan/Leeds triumvirate has to be challenged regularly. it was great to see all of them struggle to an extent so far and I say that with great respect for all 3 clubs who are where they are on top of the tree by merit. However we need the Hulls, the Huddersfields and the Salfords winning games.
