Did I read that the moneyman has pulled out of Fev? How does that affect their 2015 recruitment and retention?

He turned out to be the no-moneyman, and there's barely a Fev fan who isn't heartily relieved he has gone. The £450k for finishing second became of massive importance to the club as we had a lot of financial commitments but it seems we will be able to retain most of our squad next year, though doubtful we'll be making much of a splash with new signings.

It's been a bewildering year for players and supporters alike with a huge turnover in personnel both on and off the field, and I think a lot of us are a bit bemused, though delighted, that we've managed to finish second. We have been some way short of the top Championship team that we'd been accustomed to watching in previous years (outclassed by Leigh and more recently by the back-to-form Sheffield), and whether we can launch a challenge for the top 4 next season remains to be seen with the Championship obviously going to be much tougher next year, but most Fev fans are just relieved that we've got our club back (the bombast and ludicrous press releases that resulted from Feisal's presence are not at all what the club has ever really been about) and our immediate financial future seemingly back on reasonable terms; we should still have a competitive squad next season if we have more luck with injuries (five ACLs amongst first-team regulars in one season).

Looking forward to going to Fev next year.

It will be the difference between having a squad on full-time or part time i.e. training on an evening and a day job to go to.

I'm actually a bit jealous of Bradford in this respect (seriously)! I suspect a tour of championship grounds will be the most refreshing experience some of you have had for years. Wouldn't mind Leeds doing it for a season.

There’s quite a few decent grounds amongst championship clubs where you can get a decent view/warm welcome. I’ve not been to Fev since we played them in the cup in 2005 IIRC. I have some fond memories of going there back in the 80s and usually getting a win. Can’t say there’s a place I’m not looking forward to going and that includes Sheffield even though I’ve heard the Owlerton Stadium is a bit “uncomfortable”.

While it should be a “refreshing experience” I’m not under any illusions it’s going to be some sort of cakewalk. We’re putting together a decent side but we’ll be the scalp everyone will want to take. We should get into the “middle 8” comp but I think promotion is likely to be very difficult indeed given the difference in resources available between SL and Championship. 2015 is our best shot to come back up. If we don’t make it then it’ll be even harder to attract players who might be able to get you there. We’ll be needing a SL club to go into financial meltdown for any championship team to have a chance in the longer term.
