Willie Tonga is a top quality centre, no question about it. But the signing raises other issues.
So now the club will have three quality centres -- Ben Pomeroy, Willie Tonga, and Vincent Duport -- as well as centre-winger Darryl Millard. This doesn't make much sense to me. At least one quality centre is going to sit on the sidelines each week, even if not injured, and it could be a Frenchman. We already have two French wingers -- Vaccari and Cardace -- on the sideline. Not good for French development!
Also it raises questions as to where the club could find a spot for Todd Carney in their import quota. One possible answer is that the club is going to release either Scott Dureau or Sam Williams in 2015, plus one import forward.
Perhaps Toulouse will pick up the pieces?

There are more matches next year, that's why were seeing clubs buying more depth than usual. So look out for players being rested, supporters r not gonna be happy seeing some of their best players rested some weeks. But its got to happen as they can't play 40 matches a year, obviously.

Why not! They used to before SL. I'm sure in Tawera Nikau's book he states that due to the run that Castleford had one year in league, CC, Regal Trophy and play offs. He played over 40 games and the only game he missed that season was the Cas v NZ game, has he'd been picked in the touring side. I imagine a lot of Wigan players of that day and age also would of played over 40 games in a season, and don't forget these were 'part-time' players with other jobs on the side! |
