Is there any point naming a squad of 19 and what are the rules about it. I know we (hull) have in the last month or so twice named a squad of 19 during the week and then brought in a youngster to make there debut. But this hasn't been a late change it's been planned well in advanced. I can see why they do this to stop local rag printing stories like "john smith making his debut for hull on Friday".... And not adding pressure on a young player.

But is this against the rules and if it isn't what is the point of naming a 19 man squad?

I believe it's in the rules, that you can make a late change like that. It's not that big a deal, the rule is in place to stop teams turning up with academy players and loans therefore all but throwing matches.

This Friday? Tough game for somebody to make their debut.

It's so that if a team is going to play a load of young lads then the fans know about it before the game.
Whether it's in the rules or not to do what Hull did I don't know, but I don't particularly care either if it's only 1 player.
