McNamara: The World Cup Casualty by Steve MascordENGLAND coach Steve McNamara is a fellow who doesn't mind a bit of banter with the press. He'll give you advice on the best pubs and clubs in Hull, if you ask him.
So on Saturday, Steve Mac should have been cracking gags with us as he walked into the media conference after Englands 42-0 win over Ireland.
The domestic media, in particular, gave England plenty of credit after their 28-20 first-up defeat to Australia and Saturday's performance before a sold-out crowd at John Smiths' Stadium gave every indication that those who doubted the World Cup candidacy of his side following that game had been wrong.

| Macca took the flak to take pressure off his team, which was pretty selfless imo, even if part of the job description. Maybe you're correct. Maybe no-one does remember things like this but truth is, they should, and it if they don't, then it says far more about the short memoried critics than it does about Steve.
