| So that's the first week of the playoffs done and dusted. What did everyone make of it? Any surprises? Anyone stand out? What did you make of the overall quality of the games?
For me every game went the way I expected it to. I thought Hull v Catalans was the one that could have gone either way, but Catalans have been shown in the past to lack the mental resolve in these games and that showed again. Hull aren't going to be racking up big points anytime soon but our defence is good enough to allow us to compete in any match. Wigan were impressive, but at the same time Hudds were really disappointing. Warrington also looked strong but were aided by some lousy officiating and some, at times, paper thin Leeds defence. Saints were always going to win and didn't have to get out of 2nd.
I think the big winners of the weekend were probably Hull. Not only did we progress but other results meant that we get to go to Huddersfield, which imo is the most winnable game we could have got.
The losers, other than the two who's season is now over, have to be Huddersfield. There were questions about how they would cope when it got to the business end and unfortunately their big players just didn't turn up. It will be difficult for them to dust themselves off and go again imo.
Hull and Leeds to progress next week for me. I am still going for a Wire v Leeds final but I think Wigan might have a say yet.

| I've been impressed so far.
Bar the st helens hull kr game teams have displayed good intensity and strong qualities in the conditions provided. In the rain teams have been solid defensively and shown respect for posession. In the good weather teams have shown top quality skill in attack.
For me now, I think it's going to be a wigan warrington final. They are in pole position with a week off, a home tie and very good playoff wins under their belt. Whoever wins through to the final week is going to have a tough ask to overcome them.
I think leeds will have a hard time getting to the final now. They've played wigan and warrington in consecutive weeks and will now face a Saints team bang in form on the back of a good old fashioned shellacking by warrington. If they can get through that they most likely face a fresh warrington team again. You can never fully write them off, but they can't make it every year.
Hull face Huddersfield and I imagine this could be a tight game. One thing you can say about hull is they have moulded themselves into a very very difficult team to break down, but huddersfield are also sound defensivly. I don't see hull having more points in them than huddersfield so I think huddersfield will grind that one out.
Then theres leeds saints. This is really difficult to call because theres so many conflicting factors. Saints have won the last 3 games at headingly and go into the game full of confidence on form. Leeds recent form isn't bad but they are going into the game on the back of a bad defeat. On the other hand, leeds have had 2 tough game against top teams, saints win against Hull kr, although impressive amounted to a fairly low intensity stroll. How much will it do to prepare them for a blood and thunder clash at headingly? Or are they just getting better and better, an unstoppable juggernaught?
This game will be a real test of leeds mental fortitude, do they still have what it takes to retain the title? It's win or bust and would hate to surrender the title on home turf.
I can't pick a winner. But whoever wins will probably go on to lose against warrington in week 3. Though if leeds were to win and huddersfield win it means warrington will have to club call leeds as the lowest ranked team, unless they flip a coin, and you wouldn't write leeds off going to warrington and underdogs and reversing yesterdays result, as they have done in seasons past, they have form for doing that.

| Such a shame that no one stayed behind to applaud Steve Menzies off the field in his final game.
i know a handful of Hull fans did but it would have been great for him to do a lap of honour. Sky didnt help interviewing him straight away which meant most of the crowd had gone by then.

Thats why you got the Bullet Agar...Adam Pearson wants winners...not useless gits like you.

Just after the final hooter, Menzies was addressed by our Stadium announcer and got a huge ovation from all of the Hull fans, to which he acknowledged the support given by all supporters in all areas of the ground by clapping back
This I imagine wasn't shown on Sky.
