So far it looks to me like Morgan Escare, sensational young full back of Catalans Dragons.

He is fast, very evasive with ball in hand, can take the high ball, and can tackle in most situations (I haven't seen him defend against a charging prop one on one so far), even though he is a physical lightweight. He is very good at backing up line breaks or tackle busts, as well as making line breaks of his own. These qualities have enabled him to score 14 tries and make 2074 metres for his team this year. Escare is the top try scorer for the Catalans by a significant margin.

I rate him higher than Clint Greenshields, and Brent Webb.

He may join Remy Casty in the NRL before too long.

I've been very impressed with Currie at Warrington when I've seen him.

Sutcliffe at Leeds also perhaps.

There are many players with a case this year imo escare has been very impressive as has Ben crooks and Percival at sts along with countless youngsters at Wigan, but for me Tom lineham has been ahead of any young player this year he's been destructive at hull and really turned into a top class winger.

How many tries has Lineham scored as a winger in a winning team compared to Dixon a winger in the worst team, just out of curiosity?

Can't believe I'm doing this as I'm supporting a hull FC player but lineham is by far the better winger out of Dixon and himself! Although Dixon has scored 4 more tries than lineham, he misses 60 percent of his tackles! Lineham has made twice as many tackles and missed less than half what Dixon has! Dixons defence is woeful, as is his error count which lineham has made half as many errors than Dixon.

I suspect there was something a little more subtle in my question which seems to have passed you by.

I will change the approach slightly.

Is it not easier to look good in a good team than a bad team?

PS you are not Phil Clarke are you? He watches rugby through a series of stats and even predicts result using a useless metre.

Agreed, for rookie it has to be Escare. Young player of the year has a bit more competition

You could just as easily say that someone with above average skills will look outstanding in a poor team as he will score all their points where as an above average player in a good team will not be the best player and therefore may not shine quite as brightly.

Both are good, but Lineham has shown all attributes against good teams. He would get my vote between the two but following on from OP Escare is outstanding and may get the top vote anyway.

The "good team" around Lineham don't make his tackles for him.

The defensive structures help. Or is every tackle a one on one front on tackle against your opposite number.

Ask Clarkey he will give you the stats

A bad team round Dixon wont score his tries for him.

But his defense is weak.

Lineham is better in every aspect other than probably passing for a child ticket when visiting Flamingo Land.

Whilst Dixon has shown great finishing, he also shows weaknesses too. If he was playing for Hull, he;d be the player the opposition targeted the most.
Lineham is a beast.

Would Alex Walmsley qualify from my team? He won the championship young player of the year award last year for Batley. Does that count him out?
