| Last nights Wire V Wigan game lived up to it's star billing ....... pats on the back to both teams and their fans ...... but if you watch BBC this morning you'd never even know it happened.
Their dedicated sports news report this morning was extended from the normal 3 minutes to 6 minutes .... why? To report on the game? No .... so they could show how the groundstaff remove the covers at Wimbledon, and even had a 30 second section showing a man cutting the grass!
The Wire v Wigan game didn't even get mentioned ... not even the result ......
Disgusted.

| Problem is the BBC assume only us northerners want to know about Wigan v Warrington (and to some extent they're correct).
Whereas all the posh toffee nosed big chinned double barrel surnamed londoners want to hear about strawberries, cream and tennis
It's a simply case of catering to their (perceived) majority audience.

| Perhaps we could have a two tier licence. A cheap one for us poor northern folk and a much dearer one for the southern softies.

| It's strange, sometimes they report on the previous nights matches for a minute and show some tries etc. but half the time they don't. It's like they decide if they can be bothered with us or not.

| The BBC isn't our PR agency.
Let's be honest here, the only tennis major held in this country is much more newsworthy than a Super League game (one which large sections of the supporter base consider to be "meaningless"icon_wink.gif played in front of 14,000 people in a small northern town.
When RL does something newsworthy, it'll attract news coverage.

But when it's a meaningless union game in front of 7k in High Wycombe they'll always have a report ready .

| To be fair, and in spite of creaming themselves every 5 minutes in the run up to the rah rah game in Oz on Saturday the BBC did show highlights of Friday nights games on Saturday morning breakfast TV - however I do find that 'that's all the sport' line gets on my thruppenies when they haven't mentioned the RL from the day!

But what else in sport in this country took place last night? If there were football games or anything with higher attendances then fair enough, but I don't think there was much was there? The football and Union seasons are over and the cricket 1 day thingy had finished.
It's not about the BBC being our PR agency, its about them reporting the sports news. Often higher attended RL games are not reported but lower attended other sports are. There have been plenty of times where RL has been the highest attended sporting event in the country that night and there will be nothing on the evening news or the next morning.
I suspect if it were a Union game that had attracted 14,000 people and been a cracking game, in a small southern town, then it would have been reported.
It's not just the BBC, plenty of other media are just as bad, but then they're all southern based too. It's just a good job Sky News are always biased toward the sports they hold the rights for.

| no mention on 5 live radio this morning either....well done George Riley...NOT.
nothing in any of the broadsheets...apart from a fairly decent piece in the Independent.
And people wonder why we have 'a chip on our shoulders'!...we just don't get the coverage we deserve. Shame..because as a sporting spectacle last night was right up there ..top notch entertainment.
Anyone know the viewing figures from SKY yet?
Oh to live in Aus....where RL gets proper coverage.

| Is this the same BBC that were moving to Salford, making it more important than ever to have a SL team in Manchester ?
We have to face facts, the BBC doesn't give one, about RL and their reporting, as always doesn't cater for "regional" sports.

Perhaps we, the menbers of RLFANS should band together in a effort to see the profile of our sport raised in the media?
We could engage in a campaign of mass emails and letters to the various publications and local/national news programmes.
According to the tool bar at the top, there are 2016 registered users of this site currently online. If we all write a letter a week to a publication/production company, they'll take notice. Even if its just to grananda tonight to give us more RL stories on a daily basis - team news, transfer rumours etc.
So why don't we do that ? Or we could just moan amongst ourselves that no one takes any notice of us.
Football's success over the last 20 years means that you can't goanywhere without names of players and teams being mentioned, its stable polite converstion between men and that breeds interest.
The more we could get RL talked about, the more others willtake an interest.
Let's startwith the North West
Quote: Granada "You can contact the Granada news team in the following ways:
Telephone: 0161 952 6073
Email:
I'm going to email, text and facebook GT to ask them to make sure they show some extended highlights of last night's great game. I'll not twitter as it still baffles me slightly and if I ring, people might figure out I'mnotdoing any work.
For goodness sake, Salford is like a circus at the moment. Granada Tonight could have a daily piece on the Dr's senaneghans. It would surely help boost interest in Salford amongst the manchester crowd, if they knew that an exciting new team was being built.

| OK, Facebook is denying me, but I've sent an email and a text asking for some highlights and match reaction from last night's game.
Who else has done the same !?

| Maybe if we as fans supported our game a bit more, other people and groups would aswell?
You want to make the BBC, ITV, Sky Sports and every major newspaper and media outlet sit up and take notice of us? Buy as many tickets as you can to the world cup, take as many friends as you can to the world cup, get them to buy as many tickets as they can. If we have a world cup played in front of big crowds the media will take notice of us. If we follow that up with a season of SL games played in front of big crowds the media will take notice of us.
