The final selection for the World Cup Squad was made after a hugely successful 2 day Performance Camp at HMS TEMERAIRE 13-14 June 2013. We have some serious surprises as you can see; we started with a ‘Train On’ Squad of 51 players who all completed a 12 week S&C programme set by Sam Dovey. Our gains have been phenomenal and some of our young players have literally launched themselves into contention as a direct consequence of adhering to this very strict and accurate part of our preparation. I wanted the selection process to be tough, I have certainly not been risk adverse and played 2 conditioned games in 2 days with the whole squad competing against each other. We have left out some serious athletes that will be hugely disappointed and I can only thank them for their fantastic attitudes and continued professionalism; selection has been very intense and extremely close as you can imagine and it would be worth keeping an eye on their performance in this years Inter Service competition which will take place on completion of the World Cup.

I can honestly say that this process has produced a fit, strong and smart bunch of individuals that fit the profile for the team we are looking to create, indeed its my opinion that this squad has the potential to be the best team we (CSRL) have ever fielded. On behalf of every member of HM Armed Forces I am very proud to announce final 24 players that will represent Great Britain.

Thanks guys. It certainly wont be easy but this bunch of players are being treated like pro's so nothing is being left to chance. One thing that will be important though is the "18th Man" - so we need to get as many people to Colchester on game days to give their support to the lads - As the British Public always do for their Armed Forces.

Tuggles - Green death do come under the Royal Navy banner.

Glad to hear there's a Rugby League team now.

When I was in the 'green machine', they had us playing Union only !

Got sick and tired of the kicking duels and kicking the ball in general.

Fleabag,

Yep we have come along way since been recognised back in 97. Alot of hardwork by a few indviduals combined with backing by some very Senior Officers. We have some very good players some are ex Superleague or Championship players that just didnt quite make it in the pro game, so decided to join up get paid a good wage & continue to play footy and for the very best represent their Country . I suppose the highest profile ex CS player is former RM Jordan James, currently playing at Salford.

The Royals play an annual game against the Para's, which is always tasty but always of a high standard. The interservice tournament is a close run thing, with no run away scores (as with the Union tournament) in fact we have had a few years when we had to go by points difference to decide the winners. All been well we will be streaming this years Interservice Tournament live on the internet! Exciting times for Rugby league in the Armed Forces.
