| This would have been better at the end of the season, there's a dearth of decent refs as it is.

| Mixed feelings. Personally think he's one of the better refs and its a shame to lose him. On the other hand, i hope he makes a go of it and manages to improve standards across the board.

| Surprised he's stopped reffing now and not at the end of the year. He's one of the better refs.
Good luck to him in his new thankless task!

| Will be interesting to see if he takes the 'all the ref's are faultless so we're not discussing it'approach Mr Cummins appeared to have.
Ganson always seemed to be one of the more outspoken, vocal refs.

Moved Upstairs Ganson Hangs Up His WhistleAfter eighteen years at the pinnacle of his trade, Steve Ganson has announced his immediate retirement from refereeing to step into the role of 'Match Officials Coach and Technical Director', vacated by Stuart Cummings departure earlier in the season.
Many supporters will breath a sigh of relief as the St. Helens based official takes up a managerial position and vanishes from our pitches and screens, but he will undoubtedly leave a void within the refereeing fraternity which will be difficult to fill.

| With Ganson's experience of refereeing games and Sinfield's experience of telling them how to referee games you'd think there'd be better options at this stage of the season .

| Surprised he's gone now, thought he might want to be involved at the World Cup. Let's hope he can find a better French ref then Terry Halibut!

| When he wasn't hogging the limelight, displaying astounding arrogance and/or playing to the cameras he was the best ref we had. Unfortunately he got caught in the occasion to often and seemed to think he and his decisions were just as important as the actual gameplay. When he calmed down, wasn't so keen with the whistle and just got on with it he was superb.
The final moments of the 2007 Leeds vs Bradford Millennium Magic game sum him up for me. Too arrogant and caught in the moment to check the try.
